1. We dont go to the theaters
2. We do own DVD and Videos
The reason we dont go to the movies is to NOT be a stumbling block to an unsaved person.
They dont know what movie I am going to see hence we dont go, besides there is nothing good out there anyhow.
We have only taken that stance on the theaters in the last 3 years before then we would take the children to see childrens movies out but not anymore. Just a personal conviction.
In our home we do not own any movie that is not rated G and even some G rated movies I would not own.

Warning on "Schindler's List" - it contains two very complete and graphic nude/sex scenes, along with the expected terrible violence and brutality.

If you want it in your home, be sure it is NOT where impressionable minds might accidently stumble across that.

Schindler's List is a very good movie. I never read the book. It was so sad though. Still, I may buy it now that it's on DVD.

I agree Liz. There aren't many good movies out at the theater.

No, it's not. I'm not subsidizing loud decibels or encouraging consumption of large amounts of junk food!

The questions in the poll were missing my answers!

First of all, I identify myself as a biblical Christian and not by denomination. We belong to a Baptist church in Australia but not here in America.

We do not go to the movies because of
-- outrageous prices
-- outrageous sound levels
-- walking on popcorn and finding my hand on someone's chewed gum stuck to an arm rest
-- etc.

We do, however, have a collection of well over 300 videos here. When the kids were being homeschooled here, and when we had our own private school, I found I could buy videos of everything from the glass photoplates used to chronicle the Civil War to original footages of both World Wars, the Korean War, Desert Storm, the Roaring Twenties, the Depression, etc. I also got videos of many science subjects and many geographic explorations. We also invested in the old musicals which people don't pay much attention to today: Kiss Me Kate, Annie Get Your Gun, Oklahoma, South Pacific, Music Man, the King and I, My Fair Lady....a shelf of them, even going back to Singing in the Rain. We have a collection of the Sing Along videos for our retarded son, a lot of Shakespeare and historical dramas such as A Man for All Seasons and Apollo 13, biographies of a number of people from George Washington to Ben Carson ("Gifted Hands") and Raul Ries' "Fury to Freedom," as well as a pretty good selection of Disney (the fun stuff, not the 'mystical' ones like Witch Mountain) and fun comedies dating all the way from Laurel and Hardy to Carol Burnett.

We have friends that come over just to have video evenings with us because this is the only place that they can see a lot of these. We serve better than popcorn and sodas and have a lot of fun and laughs, or serious discussions, with good friends.

They were marvelous education for the kids as well.

We never hooked up to cable or any channel enhancement device. Thus, very few channels were ever available and screen time (this included the computer) was strictly limited.

We are in escrow now for a new home in Oregon and it comes equipped with a dish in the backyard, so I guess now that the kids are grown, I can watch Animal Planet any time I want! :D

True, except for the necking and groping you used to see around you in the movies. Anyway, I have no intention whatsoever of renting the Passion and will use my whip as boss of the house if anybody in my household goes out and rents the movie.

But other than that I like most of Gibson's movies. I like the dance portion of "What Women Want". He's graceful.

Frogman, re the Robin Williams film, I think you met Jacob the Liar ?

No, I haven't met him, oh, did you mean 'you meant Jacob the liar?' ;)

Just kidding, I have never used the mad graemlin before and thought he may feel unloved so threw him in.

I am not going to state HERE that I am a Baptist. That goes without saying. If I weren't a Baptist, I would have no business posting in this "Baptist Only" forum! :D

1) Yes, we go to the theater about once every five years.

2) Yes, we own videos - mostly classics or kid's movies for the kids (again, mostly classics). We also love documentaries - especially about Ellis Island and Elliot Ness <gasp>

3) Yes, we pay for cable TV service. Hubby would be lost without the History Channel!

§ue (Baptist - but not legalistic) ;)

I used to go the the movies quiet often; however, in the past year of two I have only been to a few. This is not because I find anything wrong with the theater, I am just too lazy to go. I usually wait and rent the movie on DVD. The funny thing is that my daughter works at Tinseltown; therefore, I can go free. Maybe I will start taking advantage of this fact before she graduates from high school and finds another job.
