It is sad she doesn't understand the context of what you are talking about. Or even has given any indication that there is a need for salvation.
Well, the game isn't over yet. And if they had followed the actual teaching of the RCC they would have said something to the effect that their hope is assured as long as they remain in Christ.

Well so do I. I want to be in a state of grace everyday. But instead of having some hope of a "chance" of being in Grace at the point of my death I plan to remain in Christ until that point so its not a chance this or that.
Scapulars aren't magic. You can tell your family I said so.
You can say 10 gazillion Hail Marys and unless your life is ordered towards God and you allow the effect of an internal conversion to God from God you've done nothing other than repeat a lot of words.
that's just the entry point. You must then live the life of Faith or your baptism is wasted.
Yes, I'm sure there are lots of these.
And that is a travesty.
Then they don't have the right kind of faith if that is so.
I certainly hope that isn't so. Compared to Jesus, Mary is less than an atom.
Ok.
Certainly, that is a shame.
And I will pray for them.
I've encountered Catholics like that and I pray for them.
Clearly you hate what has been shown to you to be the RCC. And its understandable your feelings. I felt that way once. And I would like to add I'm angry at the leadership that left your and my family in that position not even really knowing their own faith. My Dad may yet be saved. But I worry for my mother as she is how you described your family.
Well if they are indeed worshiping Mary and replacing God with Mary they are certainly believing something that isn't the Gospel. But that is not what the RCC teaches. And the RCC teaches the gospel that you must have faith in Christ whom attoned for your sins on the cross.
I certainly sense your anger but I still hold my position that it is Christian.

I hope you feel better and I will keep your family in prayer so that they may gain salvation.

I am honest with myself and I think the RCC is Christian. I don't say that to anger you but to provide my view.

I sincerely pray TS that this Francis I does not tarnish the name & rep of St. Francis who is a personal hero to me. I also hope this one is cut from a different cloth....IE, he cannot rise to the defense of these Homosexual priests & bishops, rather he should be actively ferreting them out & getting them out of the church (& in some cases, having them jailed). That is a big black mark that penetrates down to the most common professing catholic still in the church today.

If any organization, Business, Military, Church is to institute a hierarchical system of management; then I hope there has been an educational process already put in place. Because what will be watched closely is his character & the moral principals. But it will be axiomatic to the RCC that at this Popes core that he is a Godly Man, a Professional Manager, a Innovator, a Police Man, a Leader & an Exemplar. I personally believe he has to re-mold the RCC--not just a face-lift mind you. A daunting task to be sure but one that could result in an extraordinary achievement if done right.

He was criticized by the Current President of Argentina because he would support her position on same sex marriage and went against it. Hopefully, that is a sign of things to come.

Salty, I do not remember disagreeing with you but I think that the Nicene Creed does deal with forgiveness of sins. As for the JWs and the Mormons, they disagree on everything, especially the Trinity and the nature of Jesus. Here is a translation of the Nicene Creed as it appeared in the 1928 Book of Common Prayer used by the Episcopal Church:

I BELIEVE in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible:
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man: And was .crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried: And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures: And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father: And he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who spake by the Prophets: And I believe one Catholic and Apostolic Church: I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins: And I look for the Resurrection of the dead: And the Life of the world to come. Amen.

Primarily the Trinitarian doctrine.

But it does.

Yes as long as I remain in Jesus Christ.

On the fact that God in his love and mercy sent his only son to live and die for me and that by the shedding of his blood I find the remission of my sins and am given a new life in Jesus Christ within whom I remain.

But they do. And So they are.

I agree that Baptism is merely an ordinance and therefore does not save you. However, as far as I know, I do look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Considering the age of the Nicene Creed--1700 years--I find it a useful statement of the central doctrines of Christianity. It mentions Salvation and that Jesus was crucified for us. It says that there is a balm in Gilead.

I BELIEVE in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible:

Perhaps you could straighten me out. What happens to people who die without Christ ?

Then, because we want to stay on-topic, you could explain what good a humble life does for the unsaved .

True Baptists have two serious problems with the Nicean Creed: universal church and baptism for the remission of sin. These have been bones of contention since before 325 A.D. even through today. Many have died refusing to bow to such doctrine and to those who would teach such heresy. The religious powers that be are still trying to control the souls of many who are duped by such teaching.

Regarding the new Pontifex Maximus: reformed apostasy is still apostasy reformed. If there ever was a true candlestick(Holy Spirit) on Vatican Hill, it has long since been removed. There is still opportunity to repent and turn to Jesus--probably not much time left before God shuts the door. The signs are all around.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Perhaps Francis is more worshipful than Ignatius.

Are the Jesuits still the military arm of the Vatican?

Even so, come Lord Jesus.

ahh no, are you thinking the Templars? We have Dominican nuns....though I cannot imagine that hey would ever be regarded as the Hounds of God...an ancient name for the OP (Order of Preachers).

Ignatius of Lloyola was a soldier who when wounded found God and in time established the Society of Jesus....not as a soldier but as a man of God.

As usual, your knowledge of church history is wonky; B-G has graciously corrected your errors, as all good Catholics do these days

I have a question, "Is this Pope Francis guy a Liberation Theology advocate?"

Thanks
