I am wondering what our Catholic friends think of this:

Pope Francis Invokes Lucifer At Easter Vigil Mass

    (How is your Latin?)

Since that's wrong, they probably don't think anything of it. It is saying something along the lines of, "The eternal morning star, Christ your Son." Lucifer isn't a proper name. It's a word that means "morning star". Just as "Satan" isn't a name; it just means "adversary".

According to Wikipedia, it's " May this flame be found still burning
    by the Morning Star:
the one Morning Star who never sets,
    Christ your Son,
who, coming back from death's domain,
has shed his peaceful light on humanity,
and lives and reigns for ever and ever.". This is pretty close, although not a verbatim translation.

Melanie, this is old stuff that DHK knows has been debunked on this board several times. Truth has nothing to do with it. Other Baptists on this board realize this is garbage and the previous posts show that. DHK will post ANYTHING he thinks will discredit Catholicism. He is has admitted his hatred for the Church. He is like Rand of Iconbusters, he is obsessed. The only reason DHK tolerates Rand (Protestant) on this board is that he continually attacks Catholics. Unless Rand is attacking Catholics DHK has little patience for him.

As a Baptist, I thought the same thing. Then I actually studied the teachings of the Church and found them supported by the bible. Just sayin'

Are you saying all the teaching of the RCC are supported by the Bible?

( I do not use the term "Church" for the RCC)

I started to ACTUALLY study the Church without my Baptist 'lens' on. I read Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic – Conversion Story of David B. Currie his parents were teachers at Moody Bible Institute and started to question much of what I had been taught about the Catholic Church as a Baptist. I also began to follow the 'anti-Catholic' threads on this board back when this board allowed Catholics (non-Baptist converts) to defend the faith. Carson Webber (a student at Franciscan University) used to hand DHK and the other anti-Catholics on this board their lunch! I kept hoping SOMEONE on this board could refute the Catholics claims because I really wanted to remain a Baptist! It just got worse. This was some years back and I noticed that Catholics were banned here after several people converted to the Catholic faith as a result of their participation. That really got my interest and I started to read conversion stories by other former Baptist ministers and theologians. Scott Hahn, a former Presbyterian, also caught my attention. I used to believe Catholics were idolatrous pagans, now I realize the Church holds the truth and has for 2,000 years.

BTW, in case someone wants to assert that Catholic's are allowed on this board, and that I am proof of that, let's make this clear. The criteria for a Catholic to belong to this board is that they MUST have been a non-Catholic when they joined the board and that they became Catholic while belonging. There are three of us left on this board. Melanie seldom post in the Catholic bashing threads because she values her membership here and has watched as others who try to defend the Faith are banned. The people who converted back when the Baptist Board allowed Catholics to join were also banned in 'The Great Catholic Purge' years back. If the Baptist Board wanted to be fair it would allow Catholics to join and defend themselves. Instead, thread after thread of anti-Catholic garbage is started asking for Catholics 'what do you think?' This thread is a perfect example! What typically happens is this-a thread is started about a particular Catholic position or doctrine, as soon a one of the couple of Catholic posters responds then a barrage of 'well, how do you defend asking Mary to pray, holy water, purgatory, immaculate conception, Mary, papal infallibility, the Eucharist, the Virgin Mary, asking for saints to pray for you, confession and did I mention the Blessed Virgin Mary? It is a bit of job for three board members don'tcha think? Instead, y'all can sit back and say 'see, they got nuttin'!' Open up the BB to Catholics and see what happens!

And, even as DHK knows full well that the video he posted is ridiculous, here is one comment that was left to refute the nonsense being asserted by the video: "This video attempts to make a wild and reckless accusation, based on a false translation of a well-known ancient Christian prayer of praise for the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The video does not even get the sentence structure correct. The prayer is addressed to God the Father ("Lord"); therefore, Jesus is referred to as "Your Son" (the Son of God the Father); Jesus is not the Son of the Morning Star; Jesus himself is the "Morning Star who never sets". This beautiful prayer, the "Exultet", is always sung at the first Mass of Easter, when the large Easter Candle is lit as a symbol of Christ, the Light of the world, shining in the darkness of this world.
Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the root and offspring of David, the bright morning star."'

    really?
I was a catholic for 45 yrs and found the exact opposite, once I picked up the Bible and actually read it...then read it again and compare it to catholic teaching, I was astonished at my foolishness. I personally have found no biblical support for many RCC teachings. (infant baptism/sprinkling, assumption of mary into heaven, perpetual virgin) just to name a very few.

You found the Mass, infant regeneration, worship of mary/veneration of the Saints, One true Church, tradition equal to the bible, Mary born w/o sin, mary resurrected already to heaven etc ALL in the Bible?

    Do a search.
We have plenty of threads on Mormonism.
According to your logic we should open the board up to the Mormon cult.

We also have plenty of threads on Islam.
We, according to rules of fairness, must open our board to every Muslim, radical or not, to this Baptist board.??

Fair or not, this is a Baptist Board. You are a guest here. Please enjoy your privileges of posting within the rules and parameters given.

This the 'Other Christian Denominations' forum. Even though YOU personally may suspect otherwise, there are many, many Catholic Christians. Mormons are not Christians, Muslims are not Christians. I do my best to follow the rules here.

    Yes you do.
And when other Catholics, Orthodox, Oneness Pentecostal, etc., don't, then they get banned, and for good reason.
This is not a sounding board or an advertising agency for other religions.

I do have a question for Walter.

On his profile - he says he is a Baptist - yet he is a member -or at least attends a RC Church.

    Doesn't make sense to me?

Hi salty, yeah, if you know how to change that on the profile please let me know. There are several others of us who joined as Baptists but became Catholics while on the BB and although you can change your home church status you are unable to change your denominational status. I don't understand why, but . . . .?
