Friends, I am posting this information that was sent to me in an email a couple weeks ago... For some reason, God is laying it on my heart this morning to pray more for this situation...so I am also passing it on to you...

This email comes from Bill Clemmer, ABC/USA missionary to the congo:

    Dear WVBC Family,

Please make the following information a matter of prayer. You should be able to see related information on the IM Website, along with suggestions for channeling funds. This was received from Dr. Bill Clemmer in Democratic Republic of Congo, on 9/5/07, related to a recent outbreak of disease in that country:

The death count from this disease is now over 110 (four died this morning) including all 20 people who attended the funeral of a village chief and 2 nurses who cared for dying patients. The symptoms are similar to Ebola (fever, headache, pain) but the lethality rate is around 40-50% (110 deaths of an approximate 200 cases) as opposed to Ebola’s 80-90% range death rate. It is also targeting young children, which is atypical for Ebola. Though we don’t know what the disease is, 110 deaths in three districts has gotten our attention; (two of these foci by the way are in IMA/ABC supported health institutions).

We had a meeting with the Health Minister last night and agreed to send a team in Wednesday morning to join another team from WHO which is doing preliminary testing including biopsies and blood samples from those deceased. We will be going in via MAF to the epicenter (around 1200 km towards the interior of the country) with a team that will include me, an epidemiologist from our health group, and the DRC Health Ministry. If we don’t have a fourth person, our son Joel is willing to come and take pictures for documentation and help with logistics, packing, distribution of material etc. I have cleared my schedule this morning and will go into town to buy necessary material: gloves, masks, burial bags, buckets, soap and bleach …..lessons learned from the Kikwit/Vanga epidemic in 1995.

Even if we don’t have the answers; He does….so we follow in faith.
I’ll send a note when we return
    Bill.

    Received 9/7/07:
Back safely…but many unanswered questions. I spoke to CDC this morning…..they are thinking Anthrax (which is not what I wanted to hear after spending time in the thick of it). I still think it more closely resembles a hemorrhagic fever or possible severe shigellosis. We’ll know more after CDC analyzes the samples (they arrived in Atlanta this morning). I’m thankful we were able to get in and bring in needed supplies…..160 deaths as of yesterday….kind of unsettling.
I’ll let you know when we hear.
    Bill

It turned out to be Ebola... So Thank you for your prayers ahead of time.

While we are praying, how about for this couple?

    Prayer items:
    - Please continue to pray for a speedy completion of our visa work and granting of the visas. Once the visa stamps are placed in our passports, we will have 90 to enter the country and start the work on the next visa needed.
    - Pray for our travels as this is all completed. Once we receive our visa stamps, we will repack our suitcases and head out. First we plan to visit our families in the US for about 2 weeks and then we will go on to Brazil. Pray that seats are available and the tickets cheap at the time that we need them.
    - Pray for a definite diagnosis for this rash on Floyd’s leg. The “not knowing” can sometimes be worse than what you find out.
    - Pray for our language learning. We have so far learned just enough Portuguese to get it really mixed up with all the Spanish and Quechua!! Pray that we can make sense of it and learn rapidly.
    - Pray for the folks in Brazil that we will be going to minister to. Pray that they will be open to hearing and receiving the Word and that we will be open to see the methods that the Lord would have us to use to reach them. They are in general more educated and more “global” than the Quechua.
    - Pray for Toby, Cindy, and Jhenny Hoover. They have been working with the Quechua as part of the IMB team for several years now, but will be retiring the end of this month. Pray for their adjustments to living in the US again, for Toby as he has to have knee surgery before the end of the year, and for Jhenny as she adjusts to a new country. She will celebrate her sixth birthday this month, and has a lot of paperwork still ahead to complete her US citizenship. (She is a Quechua girl adopted by the Hoovers about 2 years ago.)

Thanks once again for your prayers and personal support throughout our ministry to the Quechua here in Bolivia. Thanks for your financial support of all the IMB missionaries through the Cooperative Program and Lottie Moon offering, too. Thanks for continuing to pray for the Quechua of Pocoata and for us as we move on to another field that the Lord has led us to for now. Please let us know of any needed changes in the mailing list. God bless you all !!!

Tis site has missionaries, church planters, Foriegn national(non-U.S.)preachers and lay people in mind.
There are several Bible college, seminary, and institutes that provide Bible education for FREE in several languages(most prominant spanish, chinese, english, portugese). Some are better than others but they all will add to your education.
There are also many sites with Biuble study aids such as, commentaries, dictionaries, encyclopedias, concordances, language helps, church history, doctrine and theology studies, and much much more. There are also sites to provide help for the pastor, sunday school teacher, missionary, evangelist, and church planter. There are even sites with Christian radio and TV as well as sites with blogs and forums. There are also sites for those who wish to do ministry.
The address of this site is: freewebs.com/biblebelievingfundamentalist

I have spent several years finding and culling through sites trying to get the most from the least amount of addresses and so far have come up with what you will find on the site. If you find that there may be another site that you know of that will be helpful please let me know.:godisgood:
