Picking on the the Javalina's uh! The Aggies will be fine this year, perhaps even a few upsets. BTW, those in the know call it Texas A&I (without mentioning Kingsville) not M!

The Javelinas used to be quite a power in the NAIA when I was a youngster in the 1960s-70s.

IF Miami gets past FSU in the 1st game of the season (being played in the Orange Bowl this year), look for the Canes to be in the hunt again this year.

Why does everyone want to drop the BCS? Sure it stinks but look at all the contraversy is stirs! All the cry babies, water cooler talk, and countless hours devoted on ESPN with the talking heads. Indeed, I enjoy following the BCS contraversy more then the actual games!

But the solution is, as I have been saying for years but no one is listening, is to keep both. Keep the conferences the same, and play out your regular season with your regular rivals. Keep the BCS. And then at the end of the year let the top 8 teams in the BCS play a three tier bracket playoff. That way, only 9th and 10th place will cry they got cheated (but it is clear they weren't close to number 1), yet we don't have to rearrange all the divisions, and then have a bunch of losers from the Wyoming Great Mountain West Atlantic Basin league play in the playoffs, just the real boys.

    I am a genius.

What about this new BCS formula? It doesn't look like much, if any, improvement. Team's ranking determined by three equal factors: Computer ranking, AP ranking, coaches poll ranking.

I see they dropped strength of schedule and the quality win points in the new BCS system. I guess it is already figured in on the polls anyway so it doesn't really matter. Now teams can start playing playing weak nonconference schedules again without severly hurting their chances. I am sure Kansas State will be thrilled to know that.

I don't have a problem with it, but it still won't prevent controversy when there are more than 2 teams with the same record at the top of the standings. It does give more weight to the "human polls" since they make up 2/3 of the points total. It is also less confusing (except for some of the weird computer rankings).

I like the new BCS better (at least in lieu of a playoff system). I agree Rod, the strength of schedule and quality wins are probably taken into account in the polls anyway so they were previously being "counted" twice.

I am a Vols fan but expect Georgia to finish the deal this year. They play a difficult schedule as always but have been on the brink since Richt arrived. No one has more talent than they do.

I expect UGA to have one loss and be ranked #2 to USC's #1 at the end of the season. USC will then get the spankin' that their lightweight schedule deserves.
