A friend of mine pastors Providence Baptist Church in Monkey's Eyebrow, KY. No kidding, that's the name of the place.

I am supplying for him today. What is the most unusual place or church name where any of you have preached?

There's a place in the Philippines I've been to, and it's called Susong Dalaga which in English means Virgin's Breasts, actually named for two hills that look exactly like their name from a distance.

I havent preached there, but there is a southern baptist church in Tightwad, Missouri. I cannot imagine being in a place called Tightwad. I wonder if they really are? ;)

That's actually interesting, considering that many Americans do not know that the mountain range called the Grand Titons is translated "large breasts", because that's what they look like.

Do we really need to discuss women's anatomy in the pastoral ministries thread?

Well, we're not really discussing women's anatomy, we're discussing interesting names and their origins. No harm in that, is there? I hope you're not offended, as no offense is intended. If so, please accept my apologies...

I do think it's intersting, since I once ran into a person who indentified himself as being from the "Grand Titons Fellowship". But I never got any more details about the group other than that.

Not offended, but the question was about the loacation of church's where you have preached, not about strange place names.

I certainly have never preached but had a friend who was the pastor at Frog Holler Baptist Church.

When I first got to Ireland I worked and preached at the Lifegate Bible Baptist Church of Tallaght.

Doesn't mean much in English, but in Irish it means "plague grave."

I've never preached at this place, but have friends that go here: Haile Baptist Church in Haile, Louisiana...... (Haile is pronounced "hell").

    Old Bottom MBC (TN)

Technically, the name is "Beech Bottom", I think, but the only way it is ever referred to is "Old Bottom." It is at the foot of the Dark Hollow outside of Lafayette, TN.

I had a friend who pastored North Love Baptist Church (a suburb of Rockford, IL). His mailcarrier pointed out that much of his mail comes addressed to No. Love Baptist Church.

I also remember seeing a St. Mary Baptist Church in the town of St. Mary (can't remember the state).

    Two really tacky names:

The Jack Hyles Baptist Church, so named when that preacher was still living. (Don't remember the town).

The King James Bible Baptist Church which used to be in Des Plaines, IL. For some strange reason, it closed down. I wonder why people weren't breaking down the doors to get in that place?
