We have pears fallen from the tree and they are not ripe. What is the best way to preserve / use them?

You can wrap each in newspaper and see if they will ripen, or you could cook them down to make pear juice or pear puree and just add a little extra sugar. If they are still very hard I would cook them down and make chunky pear sauce, using extra sugar if they are tart.

Just a hint - pears ripen OFF the tree. I have a pear tree and waited one year for them to ripen and they never did but then I found out that they need to be picked and held for ripening. :)

I don't like pears and have never really cooked with them. This year our little pear tree is excelling itself and I am at a loss to know what to do with them.
I am certainly learning a lot here. Thank you very much!

    Hi Jim,

I have never had a taste for pears and these pears are hard at the moment. Rob is the one who likes pears.

    Blessings
