He was also the last active Mason and Shriner to be POTUS.

I am not a fan of Lyndon Johnson, but, in the aftermath of the Kennedy assasination, he set a proper tone and conducted himself with dignity and reserve.

In the same way, Ford was the perfect man for the task that he performed; that of calming the nation in the wake of the Nixon resignation and Watergate. I would include his pardon of Nixon in this assessment. In retrospect, it was a wise decision. It was certainly unpopular at the time.

May Gerald Ford rest in peace.

Well said. I agree, fully basically, and especially as to the two with the personal standards of integrity, Presidents Ford and Carter.

Like most people, I was upset with Ford over the pardon, but in retrospect, history has vindicated him. He wasn't a great president, but he was exactly the man we needed at the time; a careful, decent man with great respect for our form of government, and a keen appreciation of the dangers it faced.

Regarding his reputation as a klutz, it hardly needs to be said that anyone who can ski well into his fifties is not a klutz.

This is true. I watched and listened to a picture memorial recently on Ford's life and it was argued there that he was perhaps the most athletic president we have ever had.

He also was an avid and successful golfer up into his 90s. Quite the guy!

    Continued prayers to his family!
