We noticed... Not much bipartisan in that statement or attitude. It's blatantly the GOP way or they won't play.

I agree! I think Obama is being too generous to the republicans. It is evident, looking at the election results, that the country has rejected the republican ideas when it comes to the economy. After all, this economic collapse came about on their watch. Yet, the republican leaders in the Senate are whining because the democrats won't incorporate their failed ideas into the stimulus bill.

I think, they have three republican Senators who have signed on which means that the bill will pass

To the contrary, I was very objective. I haven't seen Obama speak a lot, and I heard he was a great speaker so I thought he would do well. He didn't. Perhaps it is because he had made a day trip to Elkhart or something. I don't know why. He just didn't do that well.

Our current president obviously. It was a news conference last night, and Bush didn't give one. Please pay attention to the conversation in order to prevent saying silly things like htis.

    Not the part I watched.

Where have you been for the last 10 years? One of the very common critiques of Bush was his mangling of English. It was hilarious at times. But here is a key difference. With Bush there was a note of sincerity and straightforwardness. Obama sounds like he is just blowing smoke. Simply put, no matter how the liberals here try to spin it, it was not a good showing. I think he will probably get better with experience, and his handlers will probably sit him down and talk it through with him. I imagine that next time he will have more practice sessions for it.

As a progressive, I think we should be moving forward, and Obama's plans are regressive. They take us back to things that were already tried. If this country has proven anything in the last forty years, it is that you don't solve problems by throwing money at them. Obama doesn't get that.

The economy will recover by itself most economists seem to think and a great many think it will recover faster by itself.

Ironically I remember the days when KenH would post the national debt counter and complain about big spending. Now he thinks big spending is good. He was right the first time.

This bill adds billions on to the debt that will be passed on for generations. That is not good.

The economy is not savable, this plan is to aid in structuring the socialist dream state, not fix unfixable problems. The economy will be ten times worse by year’s end. These are the people who engineered this crisis; they have no desire in making Americans prosperous.

I'm not impressed with Obama and his lies. He lied about abortion - said he wanted fewer, but then one of his first acts was to fund more of them overseas. Pathetic. He also told three lies last night:

Lie #1: This is the worst economy since the Great Depression. He was probably too busy smoking weed in the late 70's and early 80's when we had 14% inflation, 18% interest rates and 13% unemployment.

Lie #2: Repubs think we should do nothing. I've heard nothing of the such. I've heard a lot of Repubs call for tax cuts, which Obama doesn't want to hear like a whiny kid on the playground saying "I can't hear you!" There are plenty of alternative ideas out there that don't bankrupt our future.

Lie #3: Tax cuts are what got us into this mess to begin with. No, the Bush tax cuts got us out of the recession in '00-'01 that he inherited from Clinton. Tax cuts have shown to work time and time again. This recession was heightened by the banking crisis, which has nothing to do with tax cuts. In fact, it would be much worse if we didn't have the '01 Bush tax cuts, which were across the board helping everybody.

I was watching that news conference. All I could hear from him was "Hustle, hustle, hustle,.....Approve this bill NOW!" I got tired of hearing him after about twenty minutes, so I changed the channel.

Yes! And the Democrats believe likewise on their position. One is right and one is wrong. Both can not be right. Both can not be wrong.

Stocks have been around a long time as instruments to exchange ownership for capital. They are worth only whatever the market has confidence they are worth. Do you have a better plan such as government ownership of a company's stock?

I was referring to mortgage-backed securities, not stocks.

He was still on the first question at that point, and hadn't even said anything of substance.

Okay, then we've established that stocks are good, and you're meaning the worthless mortgages brought about by the government's programs to make "home ownership more affordable" by increasing the credit risk taken. The result was people not being able to make their payments - their problem - and banks not getting the payments - their problem. Had the previous generation of Obamanites not meddled in these financial dealings then banks would not have taken the higher risks and we wouldn't have had the credit problem we now see. Social re-engineering prevailed over financial logic and the result was bigger problems. That's want Congress and the White House are still trying to do except on an even grander scale.

    Thanks for the info.

Remind me of what conservative was in charge of Congress last year, and the year before?

When the economy truly tanks in about a year or so...whose fault will it be then? Reagan's?

Jay Leno had the best plan:

Obama is a genius. He's got this figured out. He just keeps appointing people who haven't paid their taxes. When they get appointed, they have to pay them. A few thousand more appointees like that, and we'll have all the money we need!

    1. In 2007-08 the Senate Democrats required a sizable number of Republicans to reach 60 votes to get anything passed.

    2. The Republicans controlled the House from 1995-2006.

    3. The Republicans controlled the presidency from 2001-2008.

    4. The Republicans controlled the Senate from 1995-2000, 2003-2006.

Your reading comprehension is deficient Ken. He asked what "conservative" was in charge of Congress last year, and you replied lists of Republican control over various branches in other years.

Read again, and answer the question this time.

Yeah, I forgot, PL, that when the GOP is successful some conservatives flock to it and claim it as their own conservative party but when it fails they disown it and claim it is a liberal party - even though the mix of folks in the party is basically the same when they claim it as when they disown it.

Some conservatives can be correctly identified as "Sunshine Republicans".
