I believe the reference pertains to the Servetus incident. You can google Servetus for details. It is a matter of some disputes.

I never said or claimed that he did, however, Calvin didn't have to get his hands bloody to be responsible for the persecution and/or death of those who opposed him in order to be guilty of those crimes. It is enough that he (and not just him but many of his time) thought that death was an acceptable punishment for those he (they) considered heretics. No where in scripture are we EVER commanded to put to death those who disagree with us or even blaspheme the God we claim to follow. The fruits of the Spirit we claim to follow are "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith...." No where do we see punishment, torture or death listed as acceptable for a Christian to espouse in defense of our God. He (God) is capable of defending Himself without our help. If not, we are no better than the Muslims.

I find suspect (as in "try every spirit") the writings of those who do not display first the fruits that we are told specifically to look for. Calvin made himself suspect for not standing up and saying that his writings weren't worth putting people to death for. Instead, he went along with the popular culture of the day and ignored the clear teachings of scripture that to love one another makes it evident that one is a disciple of Christ (John 13:35).

Yea, you mean the fact that the government was searching for him, Calvin tried to show him the heresies that he was teaching were wrong and when he would not listen, Calvin turned him over to the authorities? That when he was sentenced to death by burning that Calvin tried to have his sentence changed to either life or beheading so that he would die quickly? Right - yep. Calvin was responsible for his death.

Based on your understanding of the matter, the religious leaders that turned Jesus over to the Romans were not responsible for His death.

Based on my understanding, everyone who has, is or will sin is responsible for Jesus Christ's death on the cross.
