Even today prophecy is being fulfilled as we await the return of Christ. In the Olivet discourse Jesus warned of famines, earthquakes, & pestilences in various places (Luke 21:11), and also that the love of most would grow cold (Mt 24:12).

    Pestilences

It is a very sad day in which we live. It seems as if murder is at an all time high (at least in my lifetime). Were this many murders and abuse of children prior to 911? Not really. Did we have this many Pestilences prior to 911? Not really. You see you need to repent and turn to God before something worse happens. The odds may be against you getting shot while watching Batman this weekend, but regardless death can strike at anytime. The victims of todays horrible massacre thought the same and went to see the Lord today either as their judge or their savior (Heb 9:27).

John, I am pre-everything, but this tragic murder had nothing to do with whether Jesus returns today or tomorrow or 1,000 years from now. Nothing has to happen before Jesus raptures His Saints out.

You may want to re-read Matthew 24 and 25. Most of the guys you mention in your review thread would say those chapters deal with the 2nd Coming.

You may also want to look back in history. Those kinds of things happened at all periods of history.

More evidence of why an over-realized pretribulational, premillennial, dispensational view of eschatology is simply in error.

Well when the Bible says "the Love of most will grow cold" it is referring to the lack of love and the increase in violence in the last days.

Actually on pg 88ff in the book "Escape the Coming Night" the author clearly says what I have said. The love of most will grow cold, and there will be an increase in violence as we approach the second coming of Christ. Also in the book "The Second Coming" on pg 100 the author says the same thing, except in different words.

    Greatest natural disasters

To put everything posted in perspective I present the following:

The 10 worst natural disasters in terms of death toll are extracted from a list of 66 compiled by David B. Hall. The complete list is available on the internet. I have yet to find an appropriate way to reference the work by Mr. Hall. Sadly, though not a natural disaster Mr. Hall fails to mention the millions of unborn children aborted world wide each year, 50 million slaughtered in the United states alone since the 1973 Roe v Wade decision by the Supreme Court. Strangely approximately one third of all pregnancies in this country are terminated by abortion which comports with the one third mentioned in Revelation 9:15-18.

    EGYPT AND SYRIA, 1201

The deadliest earthquake in history hit the eastern Mediterranean in July 1201. Approximately 1.1 million people were killed, mostly in Egypt and Syria. This makes it close to one of the ten worst natural disasters in recorded history.

MOST OF EUROPE AND BEYOND, 1347-1350

Approximately 25 million lost their lives through the "Black Death" - the bubonic plague. Between 25 and 33% of the entire population of Europe at that time, plus millions in Asia and North Africa lost their lives.

    WESTERN HEMISPHERE, MOSTLY 16TH - 18TH CENTURIES

Untold millions of lives of American Indians were lost through the various sicknesses brought over from Europe (to which they had no previous exposure or resistance.) It's very difficult to get figures on this that are not politically infected one way or another (very high or very low).

    INDIA, 1769

About ten million people lost their lives from a famine in Bengal.

    CHINA, 1876 - 1879

The deadliest drought in recorded history was in China between 1876 and 1879. Rivers were dry, so most crops and livestock died. There was no food production in a 1-million km2 area of 9 provinces. The drought caused the death of an estimated nine million people.

    WORLD-WIDE, 1918 - 19

Influenza pandemic takes somewhere between 35 million and 75 million lives (some reports estimate around a hundred million, but those can't be confirmed) - at least 16 million people died in India alone. This is clearly the worst disaster - at least in the last thousand years.

    CHINA, 1935

Another Yellow River flood "caused 27 counties inundated and 3.4 million victims". How many actual lives were killed we don't know. If you have facts, let us hear from you

    CHINA, 1958 - 61

As many as 20 million people died in this famine. *

    * We received the following response to this post

Sirs: I would ask that you consider re-characterizing the 20-30 million who died in China during the period 1959-61 as a political blunder rather than a famine. Famines are typically understood to be the result of diminished food production due to weather or other natural disasters. This was not the case in China. Food production was for the most part normal during this period. What changed was the desire of local cadre wanting to look good and reporting increased food production following Mao's politics of "right" practices. Mao's government simply took their share of the harvest, 50%. But since the reported harvest was in fact inflated, what resulted was the entire production being shipped to Beijing. This more accurately could be labeled Mao's Holocaust. Respectfully, Doug Searles

    AFRICA, 1981 - 1984

Rivers and lakes dried up from the drought that had incredible impact on twenty African nations. During one season about 20,000 were starving to death EACH MONTH. 150 million were facing starvation if help didn't come right away. People from around the world began to respond to this crisis - but for hundreds of thousands of people, it was too late. (If you have figures for this, please let us know. When combined with other relatively recent African famines, the fugure is well over 1,000,000)

    NORTH KOREA, 1995-98

Over 3 million are said to have died from famine and floods in North Korea.

Well said. Everything I have said I have backed up. I have read books on the end times that of which by gifted authors whom can explain the Olivet Discourse for others. David Jeremiah & John MacArthur are great reads. John MacArthurs second coming book is very informative. David Jeremiah's narrative commentary on Revelation is a great read as well.

You're trying to talk theologically, so you need to remember that the 2nd coming refers to him physical return to the earth to set up His earthly kingdom. It really doesn't refer to the rapture. Matthew 24 and 25 refer to the 2nd coming. Jesus is answering a question about his kingdom as you can see in 24:3.

I understand how you get excited about reading the paper and seeing this news and thinking it may mean Jesus was returning to take His People home. But in 1999, when 14 people were killedat columbine, was that a sign that Jesus was coming soon? What about the murders in darfur?

You use these illustrations as showing that the love of many will grow cold, but these are being committed to people who don't even like Jesus much less love him.

I appreciate your ardor, but Paul thought Jesus was coming in his lifetime. He said, "We who are alive and remain shall be caught up..." (1 Thess 4:17) I will be ecstatic if Jesus raptures us out in the nexy minute, but it won't be because ungodly people commit atrocities.

I think the dispensational eschatology is not Biblical. That being said God will bring every thing to fruition in His way and in His time.

The problem with dispensationalism, which is rarely if ever mentioned, is their false doctrine regarding the purpose of the Incarnation and the Church: that is, Jesus Christ failed to establish a Messianic kingdom for the Jews and established the Church as a fall back position!:tear::tear::tear::tear:

    Some food for thought...

The event that happened today led me to post on my FB wall that devils and demonic forces are often at work in these kinds of tragedies. People want to ignore the spiritual and blame it all on the depravity of man and leave the devils responsible innocent. This is a HUGE mistake as during the time of the millennium Satan & his devils will be imprisoned and so the sinners left during the time will only be indifferent towards Christians and will move away. Then when the devil is released from prison then they will want to kill Christians. This leads me to think that man of himself may not USUALLY want to kill others.

The truth is you really have no idea you're to busy making up allegories to escape the absolute truth of scripture. I'm beginning to think you may be afraid of the truth.

I don't see how people can ignore the signs of the times. Violence is why God brought the flood and all but Noah ignored them too. Violence has been getting worse with each passing day. Israel is surrounded by it's enemies. Islam a side product of the RCC and is murdering Christians everyday even as we speak. The world is in turmoil the financial systems of the world are failing. The weather is horrendous To ignore the signs of the time is ludicrous. Famine in this country is just arround the corner for this country. Pestilence is on the rise. Look up believers because your redemption draws near.

Since you are making stupid charges of allegories you need to present evidence!

I am afraid of Dispensationalism. Their eschatology is affecting the foreign policy of this nation. I have no particular problem with our support of Israel, however, we should do it for the right reason, not because of some mistaken notion that the Jews are still God's chosen ones!

I am like-minded with you, but totally against trying to make headlines fit scripture. It can't be done as had been proven over and over again.

Let's stop looking for signs and start living like we expect Jesus back any second regardless of the headlines.

Maybe you're right, you're afraid of dispensationalism because you're afraid it's the truth.
Of course you can prove the Jews are no longer God's chosen people. This comes from replacement theology. A bunch of nonbiblical philosphy. The stuff has only existed for maybe 100 years. None of which has any truth in it. Let me fill you in; When God gives His word He never takes it back. Other wise God is a liar. You're not calling God a Liar are you?
