    Then quit twisting it then!

Again, I THINK it is general but I am not going to be dogmatic about it.
I maintain that no parent has ever really even lived up to properly training up their Children.

It is YOU sir who are twisting scripture to say that it (the training) will not depart from him (the child) when the Bible says the exact opposite!
It says he (the child) will not depart from it (the trainign)

Your step sons (daughters?) departed from what your wife taught them.
That is what she has admitted.
In that case she did NOT train them in the way they should go.
If she did then the best excuse she has is that it is a general truth.

So, if she is a Christian woman it isn't a Biblical promise to a Christian woman if she wasn't there every minute of their lives? The "promise" fails the Christian if the husband isn't godly?

SFIC did not say that the training would not depart...so you are the one who is twisting what he said.
Since when are step sons daughters. I said I had raised two sons, not daughters. I didn't say they departed from what I taught them. They still hold on to what I taught them, as well as what their father taught them.

That verse is not a general truth...it is a promise. The promise is that the child who is "trained in the way he should go" will not depart from that training and from that right way when he is old. This doesn't mean that he will not rebel and never go astray from that training. It means that if he does rebel he will repent and return to wisdom "when he is old".

Therefore, I don't consider myself a failure and for you to even imply that is not very Christ-like. Walk in my shoes then come back and tell me that I'm a failure.

Linda, here's what SFIC said in post #70:

"God's Word does not lie, no matter how much you may think it does."

According to this, TC thinks the Word of God lies.

How else should I understand this statement? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Answer #101 and #102 then if you are in the truth. If those kids rebel until they die, did the promise fail Linda?

Prov 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

I wish I would have read this earlier.

The answer has been given. The Word of God does not lie. If a child is trained in the way he should go, the Word declares that that child, when he is old, will not depart from that training.

Your argument, sir, is not with me, nor my husband, but with the clear written Word of God.

So... if they die before they come to your training, you failed God? You two are the ones that are laying part of the blaim on the husband. So.. the promise doesn't apply to you if he wasn't godly?

The Bible also says that if you wait on God, you will fly away like a bird...

    One can only hope.

If the child does not return to God before the child dies, then yes.

Scripture says the child, when he is old, will not depart from that training.

If that child never returns to the way he should go, then Scripture would clearly be lying.

If Proverbs are all promises, what do you say to this:

Proverbs 23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

    Linda and SFIC,

Why can't you guys admit that SFIC accused me of saying that the word of God is lying back in #70.

Why are you NOW trying to doctor the matter?

Not doctoring the matter at all. I just posted a quote of yours in which you stated you did not think the parents failed.

And yet, according to the Word of God the parents did indeed fail if the child rebeled and never turned back to God, for God says if they train the child in the way he should go he would not depart from it when he is old.

So your answer, "I don't think so" is indeed denying the truth written in Proverbs 22:6.

Misinterpretting the scriptures to fit your beliefs will not be overlooked in the afterlife.

Accusing your brothers and sisters on this board of not believing the Bible is uncalled for, you do it all the time..

It is all over this thread...

Why can't you just stop being condescending to people that disagree with your interpretation of the Bible..

Acknowledge that others have valid interpretations as well...
You nor Linda have a lock on truth... as a matter of fact, you all disagree with the majority of Baptists here on this board. I wonder why....

    martyr complex?

    That is a promise written...

If the child is beaten in correction he will not die. Problem is, many beat their child in anger, and yes, the child sometimes does die.

But to beat him in correction, he will not die. As a matter of fact, God said the parent shall beat the child and shall save that child's soul from hell.

What has happened to Christianity that those who claim to be of God do not believe His Word?

    Amazing.

    tim,

Did God's Word say that the child would not depart from that training when it is old?

    My Bible does.

Jesus said, "Sanctify them through Thy Word, Thy Word is Truth."

God's Word is not a lie. If He said the child trained in the way he should go will not depart when he is old, guess what??? ....

He will not depart when he is old.

The verse does not say 'he might or might not depart.'

Why twist the Word to say it does?
