    I would not be a part of any Baptist church that allowed for women pastors, allowed for homesexual members and leaders, or did not agree with the BF&M 2000 whether they read it or not. You read too much into my words.

    You may be correct. I am unable to say whether the SBC of Virginia requires affirmation of the BFM 2000, but those applying for seminary scholarships "affirm a belief in the most recent Baptist Faith and Message Statement."

    As to the OP:
    I am all in favor of churches having doctrinal statements. It's truth in advertising: It's nice to know where the church stands before you make a decision to join.

    Now, I would have a bit of difficulty affirming the 1963 BFM (much less the 2000 version). If a church asked me to affirm every single sentence and word I might not be able to do so. However, I have no problems with a church asking that, if I disagree with a particular point, that I do not make an issue of it and follow the established doctrine of the assembly.

    No, you made a blanket statement without any qualifications. To many of us, the BF&M 2000 is null and irrelevant. And notice I've written
    which qualifies my statement. In fact, I can agree with your statement below until you again get into the BF&M 2000.

    Rev, that's been an issue for over 150 years. It's not a new one. As for a qualifier just saying
    That's not an 500 word essay. But it does narrow the field.

    Like it or not, the SBC (because of it size) is the center of the Baptist universe. It is not the be-all, end-all of the Baptist experience, but it is the Big Dog.

    And as I have said before, for many of us, especially those in the FBFI, it has little relevance. I would appreciate not being swept up by blanket statements.

    I'm saying mainline Baptists in America have been split since the 1845 breakup of the Triennial Convention (aka General Missionary Convention of the Baptist Denomination in the United States of America for Foreign Missions). So, not wanting to be identified with the SBC or its split offs, is not new.

    means to me you would not attend my home church. Which has had no connection to the SBC and whose pastor is affiliated with the FBFI.

    That is what you want it to mean. I have never said anything like that. You have taken my words, twisted them to fit your presupposition and applied them in a personal way. It is rather odd behavior from you. I cannot think of another time I have seen you act this way.

    You made a blanket statement
    without any qualification. It covers a lot of ground it looks like you didn't intend it to cover. In the end, my my home church does not fit it.

    Dadgum people on this board would turn the most innocent of things into a fight. Talk about over sensitive Of course its no surprise an uninvolved Calvinists has to use the disagree feature. We will all have a heart attack and die of not surprised..

    So if you moved to an area without a SBC church, ( say withing a 100 mile radius) what criteria would you use to choose a Baptist church? FBFI, GARBC, BBF, CBA, ABC,ABA, --- Would you discount any of these- which ones would you consider?
    (and yes, I know there are at least 57 more....
