I've been reading through some threads and have seen where scripture is mentioned one way, and another person say, no it's this way. Can something be done to where when a person post scripture, they put the abbreviation for the version beside, so that people that use other versions don't get as confused or argue the point so much. I think it would make things a little easier on those of us that are still somewhat new Christians and trying to fellowship and grow on this website.

Thanks:type::praying::thumbs:

Some people do that, others don't. It does help. Also, may I suggest that if you want to "fellowship" you stay out of the Bible version forum!

Personally, I always cite the version. I will sometimes ask for what version someone else uses when they are simply quoting from memory, or misquote an actual version (or print the actual correction). And I will call to question someone who claims to use one version or edition (usually "the 1611 King James") and actually cites another [usually (KJ-1769)], when I spot it.

BTW, Baptist4life is definitely correct in implying that this forum sometimes does get quite heated.

I also cite the translation being quoted, JeaniMarie. It seems everyone should cite the translation. On the other hand, it's always safe to assume those who promote the KJVO position are quoting from one of the KJVs unless they quote another translation in an effort to discredit that translation.

Yeah, I know. It's like the blind hog who still finds an acorn in the forest, occasionally.

However, don't repeat what you said above, too loudly.

You might ruin the reputations of both of us. ;)

Hi JeaniMarie! Welcome to Baptist Board (BB).

I see things this way:

The Holy Scripture says:
1 John 4:1 (Geneva Bible, 1599 Edition or might be 1587 Edition?)
Dearely beloued, beleeue not euery spirit, but trie the spirits whether they are of God: for many false prophets are gone out into this worlde.

The matter brought forth in this thread is a VERY GOOD WAY to test the spirits of those who post on the board. The one who from time to time puts a Bible/Version/Edition citation on their Scripture Quote -- that person is tossed to & fro. The one who always puts a Bible/Version/Edition citation on their Scripture Quote is solidly based on the Rock: Messiah Jesus (Living Word of God) and the Written Word of God (Bible). I won't say anything right now about those who never put a Bible/Version/Edition citation on their Scripture Quote -- doesn't seem to me like they care at all about reaching anybody else for Jesus??? Some people don't know OR will not admit: there is more than one reading of the King James Version (KJVs) -- even the Editors (Bible Changers) and Publishers of the KJV don't like to admit which edition of the KJV they are using. And no, not all Zondervan KJVs are exactly alike.

1 John 4:1 nKJV = New King James Version (~1978)
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 John 4:1 HCSB = Christian Standard Bible (Holman, 2003):
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to determine if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

See how three different versions MAGNIFY the Written Word of God!

It's sure a great idea which I never thought of doing. I generally use KJV not because I am KJV only, that is just the one I use.

You're kidding me right? This has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read on this board. You are actually saying that if someone doesn't state what version of the Bible they are quoting that they don't care about reaching anyone for Jesus?

Thank you Brother Matt Wade, you seem to understand what I am saying. I believe it. It is an opinion, so feel free to discuss, debate, agree, disagree, or whatever else suits your fancy.

There are differences in KJVs. Here is some research I did at my house:
---------------------------------------

(Last changed 17 Nov 2008)

Here are the good hits:
KJM -- kingjamesman -- http://www.kingjamesman.com/
KJVapostolic found at:
--- http://www.apostolic-churches.net/bible/search.html

Here is the test source: (used as the 'standard'):
"Believers Beware of Counterfeit King James Bibles" at:

http://www.biblebelievers.com/believers-org/counterfeit-kjv.html

Here are the other Bibles I've checked which do not pass the test
(so far, each of these Bibles are different from the Next
and from the standard KJVs)

1873 - KJV1873 Edition in Today's Parallel Bible (Zondervan)
LaHaye - LaHaye's Prophecy Study Bible )KJV(
Jeffery - Jeffery's KJV PROPHECY Study Bible (Zondervan)
1851 - Granny's American Society Bible (asb)
KJB-PCE - Pure Cambridge Edition (CBE) of the KJV found on-line here:
--- http://www.bibleprotector.com/KJB-PCE.pdf
JIL -- (incomplete) -- http://jesus-is-lord.com/
OB -- Online Baptist -- http://www.onlinebaptist.com/biblesearch/
e-sword -- e-sword KJV with Strong's Numbers (Feb 2005 download)
Think - Think Bible -- http://forums.thinkbible.org/bible.html
VIRGINIA - http://etext.virginia.edu/kjv.browse.html (checked 8nov08)

Out of 12 KJVs at my house (or available electronically), I found 11 variants.
The tests are here, is your KJV like any of mine?

Chances are, you don't know which KJV you have. Lots of them are NOT marked.

I have marked the two different KJVs from Zondervan :1_grouphug:

Cute!

Not too accurate, but cute, nonetheless.

And I suggest that the copy you are holding is very likely a 'counterfeit' or 'pirated' American rip-off of (some) Edition of what we generally speak of as the KJV, if it, in fact, says "KJV" anywhere on the cover or on the pages.

I will stand to be corrected on this one, not being able to lay my hands on either of my own 'genuine' articles, this hour of the AM, but do not believe that any current 'genuine' Oxford or Cambridge edition [the only two actual "Church of England" editions (C4K won't let me call this the "Anglican" word, even though that is an accurate and not any pejorative description.) from what was originally translated in 1611, and subsequently updated and edited a few times, that are actually "authorized" by the Church of England and the British Crown, or one assigned by either of the assigned Universities] has "KJV" on it anywhere, although the words "King James Version" might possibly be found on the spine of said copy.

(I gotta' ask my bride where our 1967 'New Scofield' KJV, which does happen to be the genuine article, as it is an "Oxford University Press" publication, might possibly be, when she gets in from work, since she can probably tell me where I might have mislaid it.)
