    What would you do as:

    Pastor

    Deacon

    Member

...of your church if a visiting preacher quoted, word for word, what Jeremiah Wright said about "God _______ America" instead of God Bless America?

Do you think this man, no matter how popular he is with so many other churches and pastors, should be allowed to come back to preach in the future?

For those unfamiliar with who Wright is, he is Barach Obama's pastor of 20 years.

*****And please don't refer to his exact words, I'm sure it's against BB rules anyway.*****

Not only would he not be invited back, he wouldn't finish another sentence. And knowing some of the men of my church, he would probably leave skinned up like a rented mule.

I am not the pastor but was only visiting during their Jubilee meeting.

The pastor did nothing to stop him, although I was a few behind him, I could see his face from an angle and he was definitely caught off-guard.

I am friends with many at this church and was told, in disgust, that the pastor has already invited him back for the next year's Jubilee.

I'll wait awhile, but I will be revealing this preacher's name very soon.

I don't want to be veiwed as a gossip or some one running down a man of God. His message is available for purchase from this church thru their website, so if anyone wants proof, I'm sure it's on the CD.

If I was a member and heard him say that, I would get up and walk out.

I don't think he should, but, as a member, I can only control what I do and I know I wouldn't be attending any future services where I knew he would be there.

I agree, only wish I had at the time, but after a few minutes and seeing the pastor wasn't going to have backbone enough to sit him down, I did leave.

    Me neither!

    Exactly.

And perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised, but I have been when I've heard ANYone -- even political types say that this type of speech goes on in churches. Not any church I've ever been in.

OK - I had to look up what he said....

So, let me understand - this was a visiting pastor who quoted what Wright said? What was the context? Who was the audience? What was his purpose?

I would do the same thing if a preacher quoted, Micah 3:5 from the Message Bible... I would walk out.

    Micah 3:5
    (5)
Here is GOD's Message to the prophets, the preachers who lie to my people: "For as long as they're well paid and well fed, the prophets preach, 'Isn't life wonderful! Peace to all!' But if you don't pay up and jump on their bandwagon, their 'God bless you' turns into 'God #@!* you.'

    Yes.
There is no acceptable context to profane the name of God.
All ages, it was that church's Jubilee meeting.
    To look tough?

We have what is called "The TV Guardian" which we call the "de-cusser".

It makes otherwise enjoyable movies watchable except their foul mouths by editing out the cuss words.

Some older movies it doesn't catch them and if it's one we purchased it goes into file # 13.
