Are you all doing anything special on September 11? We are thinking about making a video to begin the service, but I am not sure.

What are you doing if anything?

Since I'm not on the "Pastoral/Elder Staff" of my church, at this point I'm unaware as to what (if anything) may be planned at my church to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9-11.

I'm fairly certain that there will probably be more emphasis on our upcoming Annual Missions Conference that will be held on Friday evening, September 16 through Sunday September 18. If anyone is interested, please log on to www.lighthouseministries.org (There'll probably be more details about the conference as its dates draw neared.)

I still recall visiting the crash site of Flight 93 outside of Shanksville PA a year and a week after those brave civilians gave their lives in an attempt to re-take control of that airliner from the Islamic terrorists aboard it. The site is located on a lonely hillside.

What spoke to me was the sight of a large cross that someone had erected at the location of the "temporary memorial" on that hillside. My mind raced back to the thought that some 2,000 years ago there was another cross on another lonely hillside.

As the cross on that hillside in Pennsylvania commemorated the willing sacrifice of those people aboard Flight 93 in order that other lives might be spared from the ravages of those terrorists, a much greater willing sacrifice was made on that cross on the hillside of Calvary so that we might be spared from the ravages of the greatest terrorist of all times--Satan himself.

I believe the church where I get to serve will be doing something special for the day. We are hoping to use it as an outreach tool to the community. The service will be an appropriate way to remember a significant event in our world's history.

Apparently, many churches are doing a 9/11 service. One publisher made a "We Remember" bulletin shell, which quickly sold out. Concordia told me that they sold out an unprecendented three printings of that single bulletin.

I am right now making a memorial/remembrance slide show to Laura Story's song Blessings for our Sunday service. It will be shown at all three campuses.

Additionally, we are doing a live simulcast of Anne Graham Lots called "Wake-up Call" on Sunday night and I just grabbed a video off of YouTube to show then.

I was impressed that President Obama personally contacted our Prime Minister to express thanks for Canada's immediate response to aid at 9/11.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Our whole morning worship is built around remembering 9-11. The pastor's sermon is, "Why is God mad at America?" (I'm looking forward to that!)

So, why is God mad at America particularly?

Why? Is grandstanding something to be admired now? I'm sure that was not the first time the PM of Canada was thanked.
