Reparations for blacks

My Grandfather was injured while doing a project for the Government in the 40's... building a damn. He was never compensated for that life long injury. Can I get reparations for that too? It was unfair for him to have struggled through life because of their injustise.

I need to check back into my whole family history, but I bet the Government did a few other Capitalistic type mistakes that they need to be taught a lesson on. Who do they think they are? We the People? No, it a banker sitting behind a desk somewhere with my families money in his vault.

Once abortion is delared illegal, does that mean all the women victims can come back and sue the Government for allowing such genocide to occur over the years?

I didn't think about it before I wrote the above argument, but you know, this one argument might prevent abortion from ever being overturned.

One thing that hasn'tbeen mentioned is what kinds of reparations we're talking about... money? Forty acres and a mule? That was offered and later recinded.

My suggestion is to have the Federal Government subsidize the college educations of persons who can show they are at least 1/8 decended from a person who was a slave as of the date of the emancipation proclamation. The amount would be a grant in the amount equivalent to the cost of attending the State University system for 4 years. This program would be effect until 2030. Anyone in school after the 2030 school year will need to provide their own funds for school years 2031 onward. If a person does not wish to attend a major university, then that would be their choice. Also, the applicant must be a native born citizen, and their parents must be native born citizens. This is a win-win. It would provide an avenue of reparations for decendents of those who were deprived as a result of slavery, and the federal govermnent would see a return on its inventment in the form of income tax revenue, resulting from increased income earned as a result of a college education.

 

That would restrict reparations to only a certain group. What about the elderly? What about those who don't want to go to college?

Why not just give them all $1,000,000 tax free and be done with it?

Better to make it a one time payment than institute some type of social security scheme.

To pay for this the government can just confiscate the 401K savings from all descendants of slave owners or those that took part in the slave trade. If you can prove you had an abolitionist in your lineage you are automatically exempt. If you one of your ancestors owned more than 100 slaves AND/OR was a Confederate officer you will have
to give up you house, cars and any land you own (but you can keep what you have in your checking account). If you've ever had a rebel flag on your car then you must forfeit said car (or pick-up truck..along with gunrack).

Sound fair?

I ddn't say it was perfect or even feasable. I just tossed it out there to see if the situation was resolvable.

I know now why I did not choose politics as an occupation.

 

Me too (I mean..I didn't chose it either and am glad I didn't!)

Oh well..I have a feeling if this issue starts gaining traction in Politics it will create more polarization and hurt many of the gains that have been made in racial equality and understanding over the past 30 years or so.
