I don't come to this forum often, so forgive me if this has already been discussed.

I am truly wondering: Is it or is it not true that the Republican Party platform endorses abortion and gay civil unions?

I thought I read this the other day because I read something about McCain's views on these 2 areas being out of sync with the Republican Party Platform.

(Don't take this comment as meaning I am Democrat. I am aligned politically with nothing or no one).

No, it is the opposite. The republicans reject abortion and civil unions. However, McCain has said that civil unions were a legitimate right for gays......I disagree with him , and so do most republicans.

The democratic platform promotes abortion and gay marriage.

Yeah, I know, and I am NOT a Bush fan. I do respect him as our president, but I do seriously wonder where he gets some of his policies from.

Obama's position is the same as McCain's and Bush on civil unions.

On the recent Saddleback forum, Obama reiterated his position.

I don't see a whole lot of difference between Obama and McCain on the issue of homosexual unions.

Their positions on abortion are different.

Also, McCain said he believes life begins at conception. Obama, OTOH, said that the question was "above his pay grade" if I remember correctly.

But something he did say was that it was ok to abort babies because they weren't persons yet. That tells you a lot about what he beleives.
