    Reading the latest David Jeremiah book and it's exciting. He has been speaking about revival and saying that America was more spiritually dry and with only a 5% church attendance rate just prior to the second great awakening. Even with that attendance rate God allowed for the second great awakening and the revival so I wonder if revival could happen again in America and if so how? He also has spoken of Jonathan Edwards and his famous sermon sinners in the hands of an angry God. Jeremiah has spoken positive of it and the fire and brimstone approach that so many on this board frown upon.

    Perhaps we need more of Edwards and that approach. God can use it to bring forth revival.

    Think that God can do whatever He wants as regards to a revival in America, but also think that scripture sho us that we will be getting more away from God in last days on the whole tan closer to Him!

    There are a couple of things to consider. That was more a push towards evangelism as Edward’s sermon spoke was more to the lost (and of God’s wrath withheld out of His own good pleasure) than to the believer (who are not the subjects of God’s wrath). And people repented and believed, they were reached with the gospel message, out of those great evangelistic movements and through those men.

    But that is not revival. The lost are not revived. Only the church is revived. And for an evangelistic movement such as those you mention to ever come, a revival must first occur in the hearts of believers and the life of the church. Churches must address sin. They must fall on their faces, broken, before God. They must, as Bob Dylan wrote, “wake up and strengthen the thing that remains.”

    Until Christians repent and turn back to God in their lives, their marriages, their families, and their churches we will not see the evangelism that accompanied those revivals of the past. We need to look inward and get that right first. There are too many Christians and too many churches seeking to bring the lost into the muck of dead faith. Yes, I agree. We need revival. But I think we might have different things in mind.

    Thank you. I believe that as God revives churches evangelism will naturally follow.

    I agree, no one can be revived unless they've been vived in the first place....

    We praise Thee, O God!
    For the Son of Thy love,
    For Jesus Who died,
    And is now gone above.

    Refrain:
    Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
    Hallelujah! Amen.
    Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
    Revive us again.

    We praise Thee, O God!
    For Thy Spirit of light,
    Who hath shown us our Savior,
    And scattered our night.

    All glory and praise
    To the Lamb that was slain,
    Who hath borne all our sins,
    And hath cleansed every stain.

    All glory and praise
    To the God of all grace,
    Who hast brought us, and sought us,
    And guided our ways.

    Revive us again;
    Fill each heart with Thy love;
    May each soul be rekindled
    With fire from above.

    2 Chronicles 7:13-16.
    If God is not raining down salvation upon His Church; if the locusts of secularism and atheism are devouring our churches and the plague of false teaching is killing new converts, then it is those who bear the name of Christ who must humble themselves, pray without ceasing for revival, seek the face of God and turn from their wicked ways. The Lord Jesus Christ is the One who is greater than the Temple so God will be attentive to prayers offered in His name.

    But please note that the humbling of ourselves has to come before the prayers. Isaiah 59:15 tells us that there are only two places where God can be found. One is in the highest heaven, far from men; the other is with the humble and contrite (see also James 4:6-10).

    'O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee;
    Send a revival; start the work in me.'
