"...I dare you to try trusting Jesus for 60 days. or your money guaranteed back."

As much as I appreciated what Rick Warren did in his faith presidential forum several months ago, his appearance last evening on one of my favorite programs, Hannity and Colmes, was disappointing. What Pastor Warren responded with to some of host's Allan Colmes simple yet important questions was not the biblical gospel of salvation or even a reasonable defense of the gospel.
"...I dare you to try trusting Jesus for 60 days. or your money guaranteed back."

One of his responses? "Try Jesus...?" As Colmes sarcastically quipped in response: "Like the book of the month club..."

Beloved, why can't evangelical leaders just speak the truth in love and give the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ without the sidebar fodder of feeling like they have to be funny; relate; be relevant; or make Jesus likable. Try Jesus? How disrespectful to the Lord. Heaven's dread Sovereign doesn't ask to be tried out like a new kind of food or gadget; He doesn't ask to be sampled - He demands to be worshiped, followed, obeyed and submitted to as Lord!

I'd love to hear the bold powerful spirit filled presentation of the Gospel. Where oh where is the boldness of a Paul who stood before Felix, and Festus, and King Agrippa and Bernice... and all the people of the court and preached Jesus?

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!

"The only reason some of us are not exiled or thrown into prison is simply because we do not preach as fervently and as sternly as did Paul, John, Peter and others. This modern "santa claus" religion that is sweeping country today is not the religion Jesus taught and John practiced." ~Oliver B. Greene

It is sad that some pastors when blessed with the opportunity to give a clear gospel message to millions of people on television, choose to not do so. Sometimes I wonder if they are more concerned about being invited back there or to other future shows than viewing it as a once in a lifetime chance to really preach Jesus to millions that might never hear it otherwise.

His statement about the 60 days was rather silly but their rest of what he said was a clear presentation.

I didn't hear the "give Jesus a try for 60 days" part. We were in the car and I was listening on the radio. The parts I heard I were a strong presentation of the gospel. "60 days" seems rather shallow and may have just been a come back to Colhms persistent - does it have to be . . . but what about . . . are you sure . . .

    Didn't see Franklin Graham.
