Hi all,

I was emailed and asked to drop by and let everyone know about my new book on Rick Warren titled "Rick Warren and the Purpose that Drives Him.

To avoid spam issues, let me just say in answer to the questions asked of me, that it is available now (just released this week).

<snipped in accordnce with our rules forbidding advertising>.

    Richard,

Take a hike. There is no justification for Warren's misuse of Scripture in his book.

    >Take a hike. There is no justification for Warren's misuse of Scripture in his book.

RA: And is there justification for being rude and saying things like "take a hike"? Is that the way to correct someone? (see 2 Tim. 2:24-26). I've had atheists and Mormons behave more seemly.

Is it not also a bit hypocritical to appeal to someone's need to use scripture properly, and then couple that suggestion with a rude remaark like "take a hike"? Exactly how do YOU define Christianity? Do you define it as taking all scriptures in context, but acting rudely? (see 1 Corinthians 13).

That doesn't seem very Christ-like—or Baptist.

It is when you spam the board. How many threads have you opened? That is rude.

But you finally responded. Good. I like Warren. Maybe you can explain his misuse of Scripture through out his book.

    RA,

I am NOT SORRY for my post in the least bit. What you originally posted before it was edited by a moderator was spam, which is explicitly prohibited by the Baptist Board Rules, which you agreed to abide by when you registered to post here. Tell me. Did you learn this kind of dishonesty from the PDL?

I'm sure we are not going to hear from Richard again.

He made his attempt, was challenged, rebuked us for being rude, and probably has flown the coop.

Why should he discuss his book and views of Warren for free when he has published a book to sell.

    Bye. Bye. Richard.

Perhaps, if we pay him a consultants fee, he will come back and tell us all where we went wrong. [IMG]

    Richard,

Why don't you answer my question? How do you explain the misuse of Scripture in Warren's book.

You're pretty defensive for a guy who is supposed to explain the Warren phenomenon.

I'm surprised you came back, but you still aren't willing to deal with the subject of your book.

It appears that you came here to sell a book instead of engage in discussion.

So without impugning your motives, why don't you share why Warren misused Scripture in his book and whether you defended his use of Scripture or called him to account for it.

If you can't be more forthcoming on this board, why should I trust you enough to buy your book?

One more question. Why did you write the book? It is a major success that hardly needed defending, even though some of us think it has shortcomings. Was this just your attempt to "cash" in on the Warren bandwagon?

I have a much better idea than reading PDL or books about PDL....uh....Let's all READ OUR BIBLES and pray for the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds to the truths contained therein. Why folks...I have an idea that if we all did that on a more regular basis all these other "books" wouldn't matter much.I also think we might just have the discernment to be able to recognize the "good" books....from the "bad" ones.

    Altogether now...."the B I B L E,yes that's the book for me........"

HI Richard and welcome to the board. I've not read the Purpose Driven Life but did recommend our daughter buy it as a Christmas present for her Catholic father in law and he's reading it daily and using the work book.

You've got some great links off your site. Thanks for the links!

I'm sorry for the rude welcome you received. I understand you had posted the same thing on more than one thread and that is against our rules but I cannot tell you how often that happens. We stopped shooting people for that a few weeks ago. [IMG]

Maybe those who question PDL could start their own thread with questions and you could jump in when you feel led.

Hey.... I think Dr. Bob Griffith's son works there with you at Saddleback.

Again Welcome and may I apologize for our over zealous posters who should have just clicked 'report post' with a mention of more than one of the same threads.

    Diane,

I appreciate your kind spirit. If I was over zealous, I apologize.

On the other hand, Richard did nothing to rectify his own mistakes. He did not say, Oops, my mistake.

He did not answer any real questions posed to him, either, except for Shannon's.

The assumption, until he proves otherwise, was that he came here to hawk his book. One thread was bearable. Three was rediculous and rude on his part.

So we jumped on him! Ouch! Yep, that hurts. But instead of answering questions and removing doubt about his motives, he fed the fire with his own defensiveness.

So I told him to "Take a hike." It's the same thing I tell telemarketers when they break the "no call" rules.

Again, I apologize to Richard and anyone else I offended. Now, do you think Richard could answer some of my questions?

Diane, thanks for your post. Hopefully Richard will see it, come back and be able to discuss his book in a more mature, Christian environment.

Paul33, if you'll notice, all the attacks on him were in rapid-fire succession and when he DID have a chance to reply, he was having to defend his "horrible" mistake of posting in more than one forum and didn't seem to get a chance to discuss his book. (Go back to the threads and look at the times all the replies were posted.)

Actually, he DID admit he made a mistake:

    But apparently nobody noticed that.

IMHO, this nationally-known author who defends the Christian faith in his books on mormonism, DaVinci code, Harry Potter, etc. (issues that have been discussed here) was treated in much less than a Christ-like spirit on Baptist Board, and I was very sorry to see it.

    CJ,

Thanks for pointing out his apology.

    Was he sincere?

I personally wish he would have answered some of my questions.

For the record: I have nothing against Warren or what he does with the royalties from his book. But when Warren discusses openly what he did with his royalties, he makes it fair game to ask additional questions.
