Robo Rubio’ cluelessly thought GOP debate went OK until he checked Twitter

GOP candidate Marco Rubio gave a disastrous debate performance on Saturday, and while he had been emerging as the establishment favorite, his performance prompted Twitter users to blast him as a “glitchy robot.”

In the course of the debate in New Hampshire, Rubio repeated, “Let’s dispel with this fiction that Barack Obama doesn’t know what he’s doing. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He is trying to change this country.” He apparently knew his debate performance was off, but he didn’t know how bad it was until he checked Twitter, where true to form, Twitter users were busy tearing it apart.

“Oh my God, Rubio now goes for the ‘he knows exactly what he’s doing’ for the THIRD time. It’s like a robot whose circuits have blown,” political analyst Jeff Greenfield wrote on Saturday.

A Wednesday morning New York Times article describes a semi-giddy Rubio contemplating the possibility of winning the New Hampshire primary — hopes that were dashed when Rubio malfunctioned, repeating the same line over again and unable to recover when called on it by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

As the Times points out, Rubio knew it was not his best moment. “But only after the senator scrolled through Twitter — flooded with brutal, mocking reviews — did he fully grasp the damage he had done to his own campaign.”

Rubio came in fifth in the state’s primaries, garnering only 10 percent of the vote.
