I am under the impression that we cannot lose our salvation. But, have been told by others that the following verse is proof that we can:
"You will say then, 'Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.' Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, HE MAY NOT SPARE YOU EITHER (emphasis mine). Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, IF YOU CONTINUE IN HIS GOODNESS (emphasis mine). OTHERWISE YOU ALSO WILL BE CUT OFF (emphasis mine)." Rom 11:19-22

If we cannot lose our salvation (which I believe, and hope that I am right) then what is this verse talking about?

Romans 11:19-22 is about Jews and Gentiles rather than about individual salvation. Paul has been talking about Israel (e.g. 10:1; 11:1). The branches that have been "broken off" refers to Israel and the fact that God had set them aside. The branches that had been "graffed in" refers to the Gentiles. The 19-22 passage is a warning to the Gentiles to not be proud or haughty. If God set aside the natural branches (Israel), He might as well set the Gentiles aside. We should not think we are better than the Jews.

I'm surprised they let you have a name like that.
