This should soothe the conservatives a bit ... but I expect the frantic fringe to totally ignore this Russian response.

Excellent news. We can't afford another arms race with the Russians.

It's a good thing we can trust the Rooskies to always honor their word.

Anyhoo, I am not moved one way or the other on this. It's about time Europe stood on it's own feet.

This is all well and good IF you trust the Russians.

Frankly, this tells me nothing more than that the US is finally laying down "the big stick" and now Russia feels no need to be concerned with any retaliation should they decide to use the popular "tank 'em" method - that Russia seems to do so well.

Hope I'm wrong, (there are times I love to be wrong) but to me this is nothing more than the old Neville Chamberlain - Hitler fiasco of some 75+/- years ago - IOW, history is being replayed with different actors.

Another of MP's (I think) comments earlier that I agree with: "Those who don't learn from history , will repeat history." or something like that.

This is, IMNSHO, a potentially perfect example of that old saw!

So the theory is , that since Obama has left the Poles and Czechs defensless against a Russian missile attack, that the Russians no longer need their offensive missiles?

    Ridiculous.

    It's a meaningless gesture.

    Meaningless gesture for sure.

The Russian SOP is to roll in with tanks and troops - not attack with missles.

They are intent on occupying their neighbors - again.

And the Obamabots are fine with it.

I thought it God in whom we were trusting? Isn't why that phrase is found on our money? Or is God only supposed to protect money?

Then why did you waste your working years as a police officer?

Shouldn't the taxpayers who paid your salary also have trusted in God instead of the police?

Maybe you should give them their money back since you do not think that a preventive force is necessary to protect people.

The current Russian government is no different than the former USSR. Putin is KGB and most of the higher officials in the Russian government are as well. Yeah, we can trust them as far as we can throw that hole in the ground that used to be the World Trade Center.

You are right we can't. Largely because we have spent all kinds of money on what is unconstitutional rather than things like this that are.

Folks, you know we have these things called satellites. We will know if the Russians are building or not building new missile facilities.

The Iskander missiles are launched from trucks, and are not restricted to any type of facility. You may recall how difficult it was to locate Saddam's Scud launchers during the first Gulf War. They were mounted on trucks also, and very easy to hide from satellites.

Why did the Russians feel threatened by what are defensive weapons to begin with? It's because Russia’s military doctrine calls for a first strike capability. We wouldn't want to gum up the works with defensive weapons now would we. Very provocative.

Would you trust the Russians to put defensive missiles in Canada.

What makes you think Russia trusts us anymore than we trust them?

    1-NO

    2-Who says they do/should?

That's the advantage of following ole Teddy's advice (definitely NOT Kennedy!), of "Walk softly, but carrying a big stick."

Course that's not in the vocabulary of the "0" though, is it?

Defensive is defensive. I'm pretty sure that our government would never have threatened Canada with a nuclear strike, as the Russians did, "Poland is exposing itself to a strike — 100 per cent”.

Russian is hurting.. .Population is in decline. So much so that our Missionaries, and churches in Russia are reporting that by the yrs 2025-35 (depending on the source as to which yr).. there will not be enough adults to run the country. Many girls are being outsourced to other countries to be prostitutes.

Sooo... What now. That once great country is hurting from the inside. What do desperate people do? Sometimes they strike out. Sometimes they don't.

Growing up during the Cold war, I am culturally programmed to NOT trust the Russians.
But after having worked with friends that are working with the Baptists in Russia I have softened a bit. So much so, that last yr, I was tempted to go on a mission trip to Russia... (It would have been during the Georgia conflict)... Whew.. dodged that bullet! LOL...

Yes, I knew some Russian immigrants years ago. They were decent hard-working people.

Generally, it's not the common citizen one has to be wary of - it's the elitist govt bureaucrats and the stuff that's "for our own good"!! IE: the U S of A.

The exception being the ones the govt teat is so graciously nourishing.

By taxing everyone the same percentage of their income for Social Security that most Americans pay (e.g. killing the exemption on income over $100k or so), you could fund Social Security and Medicare indefinitely.
