    Dead on!! I fully agree!

And, may I add that the fear, and opposition by allies, as well as some non-allies, that we would see an independant Kurdish state, and that resultant war had a great bearing on this, as well.
A push for a free Kurdistan would have probably expanded all the way into Eastern Turkey, Eastern Syria, NW Iran, Northern Iraq, with drips and dribbles of Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the subsequent disruptions there probably amounting to a 'regional' civil war. BTW, isn't a 'civil' war an oxymoron?

Interesting observation Ed, what's to stop this from happening when we leave this time?

Bush Sr. was smart enough to understand that taking out Saddam would leave Iraq in chaos. Looks like Bush Jr. has proven him right!

Well said. I made the statement at the beginning of the invasion that "winning the war" would be fairly easy. "Winning the peace" would be another matter.

I have little doubt that 'peace' will be won there at some point. (Under the Antichrist, maybe?) I suspect that when it occurs, a new capital will be built around the city of Al-Hillah, a city of nearly 400K, and located on the edge of the site of ancient Babylon, both because it is considered a "Holy City", by some sects, and it has had little if any real damage in the War, as compared to Baghdad, as that was averted. In fact, Ol' Sad'm had a palace constructed on the actual site of Babylon, according to what I've read. I just looked this up and found that the palace was built in the shape of a Ziggurat, which many think was also the shape of the "Tower of Babel", as well.

The book of the Revelation shows that Babylon will be the center of the religious monstrosity in "the times of the end." Interesting, No??
