She is a murderer and should have been executed a long time ago.

I find the attitudes of some Christians to the Death Penalty sub-Christian. There is no NT mandate for the Death Penalty and no civilised nation would have one.

I think it is pretty well established that this women was mentally ill. I would not want to see here get the death penilty. The discription of how she had to chase down one of her children who realized what was going on and force him to the tub is horrific however, but I do believe she was mentally ill.

My sin of pride and self righteousness are no less severe as sin that hers! I am most thankful for God's mercy and want to extend that to her also! She should be kept in a state hospital, however, for life! She was ill and deserves our mercy but with protection for her horrific! As we give to others, we will be given!

    That's fine, 2BH.

If I ever kill all of my children, feel free to seek the death penalty for me as well.

The woman is incapable of being helped.

As long as she is alive, other lives are at risk. It is not unheard of for people to escape prison and/or mental hospitals.

It is not unheard of for prisoners and patients to kill those who guard them in these facilities.

The woman, sick or not, needs to be put to death.

Put her out of our misery, as well as her own.

Nothing good can come of keeping her alive.

kiwimac, thank you for defining for us what civilized means.

Quite frankly, I don't think that any civilized country should tie their own hands by not having the death penalty as an option.

There is no NT mandate to put murderers to death, but there is OT authority given to put murderers to death. I would say that leaves it in the hands of the authorities to decide such matters.

If it is wrong and uncivilized to put a condemned murderer to death, then it is just as wrong and uncivilized to kill someone on a field of battle.

I, however, do not believe either are wrong, and I believe the bible agrees with me.

2BH, you're right that pride and self-righteousness are just as severe in the eyes of God. That is why we are suffered to die prior to being glorified. Our punishment is the first death, that of our body, because Christ has put away the second, that of our spirit.

We do receive punishment for our crimes, yet pride and self righteousness are not against earthly laws, so we can not be prosecuted by earthly officials.

Murder is a crime to God and man, so both get to have a judgement and punishment against a murderer.

We, as a sovereign nation, have every right to execute murderers.

What about God's mercy on those little children?

THAT is who I think of often...not some whacked out person who should have asked God for help instead of taking matters into her own hands. IMO, that is exactly who needs to be eliminated from our society - DEVIANTS.

It would leave us all a lot less to complain about.

I truly believe that Adolph Hitler and Saddam Hussein were mentally ill. That does not, in my mind, excuse them from the consequences of their actions.

I have never seen any scholarship that said they were mentally ill. This lady thought she heard Satan talking to her. I tend to believe that she was mental. But it would not be the first time someone tried to cop insanity if that is what she is doing.

Anyone who commits murder or Pedophilia is mentally ill and deranged. That is not a natural thing that normal people do. Certainly, Hitler was at least a bit deranged to brutalize and murder the millions he did. He is at least as mentally ill as Andrea Yates, if not more so. Same is true for Saddam. Ever read his biography of his childhood? I have. Quite revealing.

Wow, Is this a Christian forum?

What ever happened to Judge not yet ye be judged?

Who, in any kind of Godly thinking can think it's ok to kill another person. Did we mark out that part of the commandments?

Yes, these people need to be locked up, but not killed.

Jamie, we are not talking about murdering her as she did her children.

We are talking about carrying out a legal execution in accordance with the law of this nation.

That is perfectly acceptable and in accordance with scripture.

btw, "judge not that you be not judged" is saying that you will be judged in the same manner you are judging. I am willing to be judged according as she has been judged. To my knowledge, I have never murdered any children, so I should be safe in that aspect.

    Hiya Bro James,

I am a fairly new Christian. Can you point me to the scripture where it says it's ok to carry out a legal execution.

Thanks for the clarification on the 'Judge not...' statement.

    Hi Jaime,

    Check out Romans 13:1-4"
Keep in mind who the "governing authorities" were at the time (the Roman Empire) and what Paul says is really staggering. This, along with the proscription of the death penalty for certain sins in the Old Testament, is why many of us believe that the death penalty is appropriate in certain cases.

"Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed" Genesis 9:6. Hmmm, aparantly God's kind of Godly thinking.

Interesting. Did you think God was being uncivilised when He commanded it in the Old Testament?

I don't think Andrea needs to be put to death. She was obviously mentally ill. Not only that, she was being influenced by the extreme cult family of Michael Woroniecki. You can read about him here
They came to my campus while I was in college and they are extremely manipulative and damaging.

Okay guys, in light of 9:6, why did God choose not to execute Cain after he murdered Abel?

If God can have reasons not to execute, than why can't we?
