I haven't seen this posted here yet.
Did anyone else see this on the news, I missed it myself and didn't know how you were to know if you had one of these contaminated jars of peanut butter. Which I do, an unopend jar of sugar free, in the trash.

Checked our cupboard and found a jar of Great Value brand peanut butter with the 2111 number on it.
My wife and I had occasional bouts to what seemed like minor flu symptoms , but being the flu season we didn't know whether or not the peanut butter could have been the culprit. Just to be on the safe side we returned it to a Wal-Mart store and they gave us a refund even though we had devoured about a 1\4th of the jar.

    Thanks, Donna.....! :wavey:

My dad called me yesterday and asked if I had any. I didn't, but he and my mother did. He said, "I have eaten half that jar in that last week!"

I told him that if he hadn't gotten sick by now, he probably wouldn't. He called me this morning and said that he took the jar back and got a refund.

I bought a jar of Peter Pan last Wednesday. Fortunately I saw the news item before I began using it, and sure enough, the product number starts with 2111. I'll of course be returning it on my next trip to the supermarket.

I had two (one crunchy, one creamy). They went in the trash, then I had to go get some JIF peanut butter to replace the Peter Pan!

Never would have suspected peanut butter . . .

    Because . . . that stuff doesn't normally grow in peanuts . . .

Does anyone know how the water at the plant got contaminated?

We have 2 jars: one still sealed, and one almost empty. Both have the product code 2111. I don't have a reciept for them but because thay are Great Value I think I will be able to take them to Walmart for a refund. I'll probably replace them with JIF.

Over the course of the last 2 weeks, all 5 of us got some form of sickness that we attributed to a flu bug. It was probably the peanut butter.

My wife is wondering about returning it to Walmart. For those of you who have returned it, did you just take it to the customer service desk and show them the code on the jar? Do they require a receipt?

Wal-Mart was very receptive in taking the jar of peanut butter I took back. Wal-Mart has to take care of it's customer base.

The FDA ought to ban peanutbutter. This stuff is more dangerous than raw milk!

Good grief! Lets ban everything. There is always someone who has a poor view of just about everything.

I love Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches. I went out the other day and bought 2 jars of it. No, 2111 is not on the lid.

Was it made in Mexico? That might explain it.

I had three jars. I tossed them.
Last week i finished a jar.
I bought two new ones (with honey).
I had an old one (no honey).
    That makes three jars.
Two teaspoons full were gone from one of the honey peanut butter.
    The other two were unopened.
I'm the only one been eating the peanut butter.
I've only had a couple or three boughts with
    'intestinal flu' since Aug 2006.
