The Phelps news is nothing particularly new, but Michael Savage being banned is. Personally, as long as someone doesn't incite violence or otherwise breaking the law, I have no objection to them coming to the UK; that said our free speech laws are more draconian than those in the US as a rule and unfortunately this is part of that trend. We also have plenty of Islamist hate preachers who are UK citizens so regrettably they can't be banned, so the Home Secretary, Jacqui 'Porno' Smith, is being more than a bit hypocritical about this one...

This reminds me to start a thread on a related topic. Are there any socialist countries that have maintained robust free speech rights and freedom of religion? I can't think of any. It seems the trend of all socialist countries is to curb speech and/or religion to some extent. China is an extreme example, while what you see in England is the start of a slippery slope.

So I wonder, why would any thinking Christian ever support socialism? It is beyond me.

So much for the concept of the freedom of speech. Welcome to our future comrades.

I was listening to segments of his program today & he was saying his layers have been intouch with layers in the UK. The UK lawyers say he's got a very good case for defamation.

We all know that a lawyer is a snake not a layer.

I've heard Savage berate lawyers in the past. I guess, now that he needs one, he has changed his viewpoint.

Also, I have heard Savage asking for donations (welfare) on his show to help pay for his legal expenses. In fact, in the past he collected money when he was going to sue CAIR. Then, without explanation he dropped the lawsuit. Of course he kept the money.

I don't have a problem with lawyers (or "layers"; Sorry about the typo). I only have a problem with lawyers who pursue frivilous lawsuits or come up with defenses for someone that are just too unbelieveable, such as blaming the mother, the father, & everyone else as to why the crime was committed. I have a bigger problem with the judges who allow such lawsuits to be heard or defenses to be considered as being legitimate.

When I was in school, my first job that I wanted was being a lawyer. I was always argumentative as a teenager. Of course my study habits proved otherwise.

Matt, you tell your preacher jokes and I'll tell my layer jokes. By the way BigBoss, I was just kidding.

Thanks...I think! Also agree with BigBossman - lawyers wouldn't bring frivolous suits if they didn't stand a chance of success thanks to courts making frivolous decisions...
