    From the same article...

    Mr. Bush said the $4.4 billion would “come from the fines and penalties that we collect from those who have come to our country illegally” and apply for legal status.

    Representative Duncan Hunter of California, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, scorned such linkage.

    “The idea that we will have border security only if it’s paid for by illegal immigrants is unacceptable,” Mr. Hunter said.

    Now that's more like it.

    Lott mostly can't deal with being wrong.

    Talk radio runs nothing , but is a reflection of the attitudes of their listeners.

    It's the listeners that Lott really wants to shut up.

    What are they going to do when they do manage to get talk radio shut down, but people still don't like their leadership ?

    Trent Lott is from my home town and has a great family; but I can tell you this attitude does not reflect that community, at all! Nor will it sit well.

    Yep, and then put all of us trouble makers in camps. That's the plan.

    Trent Lott is such a dope! PopularTalk radio programs have been the best friend of Republicans and the Neo-cons. He just shot himself in the foot big time with that statement.

    Lott's comments on conservative talk radio shows come awfully close to those of Hillary Clinton's a few years back.

    Scary, isn't it?

    And (talk radio) a special friend of His. How can these Republicans be so stupid. If he comes on Hannity's show and says that's not what he meant, I'm done with him too. But if he says something including full responsibility for his statement, and has a repentant heart, I'll listen and judge then.

    Lott and his Komrades are just sawing the limb off, so those who oppose the immigration bill--whoops, Illegal Immigrant Enabling Act--will come a-crashing down.

    Problem is, Lott has no idea...he's not on the "business end" of the branch. He's about to cost himself an election.

    Unfortunately--and I speak as an independent here--what may very well happen is this:

    IF people's memories will be strong (Big "if"), this will cost Republicans dearly in the next election. Unfortunately, I think a higher percentages of Democrats are completely untouchable. Due to:
    • more urban constituencies (more easily corruptable in the election process);
    • a higher number of "yellow dog" voters (absolute and total blind loyalty to a particular person);
    • a higher number of voters who have been "bought." (Not necessarily bribed, but they are given enough government freebies that they essentially are voting for who pays them)
    So, we may see much Republican turnover (in fiercely republican districts, we'll replace one with another), which lessens power in that district (seniority suffers). In competitive districts, democrats may replace the republicans. In districts that are democratic to any degree--no change.

    The republicans haven't made a right decision since about 1994. Why change anything now?

    That's about it. We are seeing the GOP go up in flames, because of the spineless RINO twits in congress, and the Presidents unbelievable stand on borders. I for one will not support a single Republican in Congress for a while, unless one comes along with some backbone, and a conservative bent.

    Exactly right. When one abandons core beliefs, one becomes like the opposition. If we are going to have liberals, we might as well have democrats, as they are experts at the art. The most sickening creature on earth is a liberal republican. This is exactly why they will lose in 2008, many votes abandoned to a conservative third party.

    If we are in the last days, and I think we are, the '08 elections are going to have immense effects on the growing importance of America's stand in the world political and military scene. We are democratically going to lesson our importance and impact. And that is conducive to our non appearance in end times prophecy.

    America, that shining city on a hill, whos beacon was a welcome mat and protector of democracies world wide is being made insignificant. And this coop is being conducted from within.

    Once we abandon the middle east, the world will finally understand that America no longer will stand behind the democracies of the world.

    When the going got tough, America capitulated.
