Just wondered if anyone happened to notice that the 2009 Convention took place in the current home city of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary on the 150th year Anniversary of the founding of that Seminary in 1859?

I wonder how many other 'BBers' have noticed this?

I thought it was assumed this is why they held it here. Also I figured it was obvious.

Good to see ole Southern flautin their stuff for us all again...as always ;)

Why is it a big deal that they go to the home of their largest seminary to help celebrate the 150th anniversary? It wasn't like it was a secret.

Last year they were in INdianapolis and the year before that in San Antonio. We even went once to Las Vegas.

What is wrong with having the convention in Louisville during the anniversary of the seminary. You would think there was something underhanded going on according to your post. If you hate the SBC so much, which is obvious from many of your posts, why don't you and your church move on over to the CBF. They would love to have you. And, I would say 'good riddance' especially considering your quip about the adult industry. That was low, even for you.

I hope I'm wrong but it appears to be a nasty jab at SBC preachers of which he is one believe it or not.

First of all, both of you need to get over yourselves. Seriously go out, find something fun, and enjoy it.

    Secondly ;) means sarcasm

Thirdly, why is it that everytime someone questions the motivations and decisions of the SBC leadership there is a sudden race to see who can get more fundamentalist faster? Seriously, why are you all so worried about who can be more conservative than anyone else.

Fourthly (not a word), I never said I had a problem with Southern or having the convention in Louisville. "Flauntin their stuff" means they did a great job showcasing their 150 year anniversary. Southern is a fine seminary...I have never said otherwise.

Fifthly, seriously you need to get over yourselves. Sounds like you're both looking for a fight because you're not in one for the sake of the Gospel.

Sixthly (I think I'll get smacked by a grammar cop soon) you need to take deep breaths before posting when someone hasn't said anything against people.

Seventhly, I have friends who do ministry in Vegas. They said it is common knowledge that the adult industry that there was a great influx of business to less than reputible sources during the week the convention was in Vegas. Who said it was because of Southern Baptist preachers? Who? Show me.

    Finally, get over yourselves.

Sarcasm or not it was low. And, it's no secret of your dislike of the SBC Convention. I've never read a post where you said something positive. So, based on your past posts how else were we supposed to interpret your intentions?

Exactly what I expected. One SBC critic defending another.

Believer? Unbeliever? First hand knowledge? Or just a smear? Unfounded gossip because the Christians were in town?

First of all, seriously, I get out have fun and enjoy life. I don't need your permission or encouragement to do so. Seriously.
Secondly, sarcasm can be funny... unless it is thinly disguished, hateful attacks... seriously... I mean... seriously.
Thirdly, you didn't question SBC leadership or motivations. You made a thinly veiled attack upon their moral character. Seriously, if you can't see the difference, you shouldn't hurt yourself trying to think too hard.... seriously.
Fourthly, you're rambling. Seriously, you don't make any sense....seriously.
Fifthly, you are attacking me for asking you for a source for your smear, disguished as a joke. That is not fighting for the gospel. That is spreading gossip against good, Godly men, who are in a fight for the sake of the gospel. Seriously, you are quite confused.
Sixthly, to make snide, childish remarks about one's moral character is saying something "against people".... unless you see nothing wrong with the "adult industry". In which case, seriously, you are worse than confused, you are decieved.
"They said..."...."It is common knowledge"... doesn't sound like proof. It sounds like a smear. Seriously... you are repeating a smear and you should be ashamed.
I got over myself the moment Jesus Christ called me by the power of Holy Spirit and brought me to repentance and faith.

    Seriously.....grow up

    peace to you:praying:

Don't ever think Christians do not engage in such activities. I have seen it with my own eyes. Three of my relatives are in law enforcement and the stories are quite numerous. I told you who told me. He did not know who I was. I had never met him before. I was like another guy on the street talking with him. Those can be great opportunities to engage people rather than try to cover up something. I took it as a slam on religious folks that could easily have truth. So it did not surprise me at all. I was also told the same thing by a DOM I knew personally. It is like when some environmentalists met years ago for a convention and more sodas in cans were sold to them than any other time.

Have you not been to seminary and know there are men who beat their wives and those who have problems with pornography? If they are in seminary do you not think there are pastors doing the same thing? I know there are because I have talked with some. A few years ago I dealt with a pastor whose wife was involved in pornography. She eventually left her family and husband. In 2002 I dealt with a man whose wife had been involved in pornography and she left her kids and husband to sell her body. He had just quit pastoring a church.

Have you not pastored and know pornography is a huge problem today both among pastors and those in the congregation? It is very common knowledge for those who deal with real people.

Have you not known about the pedophiles in churches who have been arrested? A friend of mine had one as a music leader in the church he was pastoring. Do you really think pedophiles are only in the news in the RCC?

If as group of men in the BFA can lie about over 400 million dollars and have the support of an unbiblical practice by the SBC what makes you think that godly men are always running things?

I pastored a church where one of the men in the church had an altercation with a youth and the chairman of the deacons lied for him. Another man in the chruch told me that he had packed a pistol for awhile to be used "just in case he needed it."

    Nothing surprises me any more.

Apparently you have not read about what Spurgeon said to do with criticism? Apparently you are better than W.A. Criswell and have not read about how he dealt with criticism.

We are not talking in generalities here. There is a specific allegation that at the Vegas convention, "adult industries" activities increased.

Now, since you didn't know the guy... and you took his comments as a slam on "religious folks"....why are you repeating it?
What continues to surprise me is the willingness of Christians to attack and malign other Christians, repeating heresay and gossip as if it were the truth....usually because they disagree with them theologically or politically.

That is never ending and it is shameful.

    peace to you:praying:

What is positive about your post? Certainly you could correct him with at least ten positives about how the SBC invests in the stock market. Perhaps you could give us ten positives why the Annuity Board defended their practice of investing in the stock market a few years ago in areas that would be totally unacceptable to any Christian because they claimed to not have control over that. Perhaps you give us ten reasons why the BFA existed for the unbiblical practice of paying interest on tithe money. Perhaps you could give us ten reasons why the SBC ignored the warnings of several pastors in Arizona about the BFA. Perhaps you could give us ten reasons why it would have been a good thing for the BFA to have made the national news.

It is all about being positive isn't it? Why waste any time on being negative when you can be another reformed positive thinking preacher like Schuller? After all why should anybody should ever have to face anything negative? Church leadership should always be in Disneyland.
