Do any of you know often Southern Baptist missionaries come home on furlong? Is it every year, every other year, or is it up to the individual missionary?

    Thanks

Generally, it is every 3 to 6 years. If it is less, it is due to health problems or family emergencies.

IFB'ers come home on "furlough" (borrowing the military term for time away from active duty) after 4-5 years on the mission field.

They spend the first 6 months in recuperating and healing from the battles on the field, then the next 6-8 months reporting to the churches that support them financially.

Then back for another term on the field.

(At least that is the "theory". Sadly, many missionaries must run frantic to visit all supporting churches across the country for an entire year and get no real R&R)

I think SBC missionaries have a choice of serving 2 years terms with 6 months of furlough or 4 year terms with 1 year of furlough.
