Senator Biden Should Consider Taking His Own Advice

If Senator Biden would advocate policies that would decentralize our own Leviathan I would be impressed.

Biden Explains the Need for Iraqi Decentralization

(Washington, D.C.) Senator Joe Biden (D-Del), the senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, wrote in a recent New York Times op-ed that Iraq should be divided into three separate ethno-religious regions, Kurdish, Shiite, and Sunni—with a central government positioned in Baghdad.

In his essay, Biden justified this argument by writing that this proposition was designed to, "maintain a united Iraq by decentralizing it, giving each ethno-religious group…room to run its own affairs, while leaving the central government in charge of common interests."

By crafting an op-ed of this nature, Senator Biden demonstrated his understanding of the benefits associated with limited, decentralized government. As Biden argued, limiting central control, and shifting power to the hands of autonomous regions, municipalities, and individuals is beneficial to the aggregate.

Unfortunately, just as Biden offers this sort of opinion, federal spending in the United States continues to grow astronomically, and as the size of the federal government in Washington grows, the American people are beginning to notice that their autonomy and civil liberties are disappearing by the day.

"Senator Biden seems to have the correct idea for establishing a limited, constitutional government in Iraq," stated Michael Dixon, National Chair for the Libertarian Party. "Unfortunately, elected officials in Washington are reluctant to apply these principles in our own country. The Libertarian Party remains the only political party committed to smaller government, fewer taxes, and more freedom for Americans."
