:jesus:This is a status I just could NOT pass up: When you carry the Bible, Satan gets a headache. When you open it, he collapses. When he sees you reading it, he faints. When he sees you living it, he flees. And just when you're about to re-post this, he'll try to discourage you. I JUST DEFEATED HIM by posting it for you to use and send on to your brothers and sisters!

Copy and re-post if you can. Any takers, don't be scared!

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

When I was 19 years old, I bought a pocket Bible, which I took everywhere. The print was very small. I read the Bible throughout the day. I stuffed the little Bible in my pants pocket to read a minute here, a minute there, whenever I was out and about. Sometimes, at trying times, I would reach down and put my hand in my pocket and smile to those around me.

Many years later, my son asked for "the little Bible" before he spent his first night away from home. A request, which I joyfully honored.

Last month I received a new pocket Bible for those minutes here and there, protection from Satan, and comfort for trying times that seem to never go away.

Thanks For That Word of Witness

I enjoyed that, Bob! What an honor for your son to see how that pocket Bible had been your guide to Him for those many years, and his request to take it with him when he was away from home.

The Bible is where I turn to in order to find the Words to send the devil packing when I come up against those same trying days and moments. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and its sovereignty, power, peace and Spiritual influence in my life and potential help for those who I come across that have a need.

Too Bad You Feel That Way...

...about the Word of God and its power, influence, and authority over the devil and his minions. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Tim, and I can think of three times that Jesus referred to the Scripture to "send the devil packing!"

You really think a repost on the Baptist Board or Facebook or anywhere else defeats the devil more than living out the the word of God in your life?

You think it takes more courage to post a pithy comment than to live according to the word of God?

Sorry, I just don't like these things that imply 'If you don't do this you are not as good a Christian as I am.'

That's exactly what I was going to say. I used to be a part of the Word of Faith cult and that's exactly the kind of stuff we used to spout off.

Righteousdude, out of curiousity, do you also believe that we can "rebuke" and "bind" the Devil?

Actually, if scripture "sent the Devil packing", then why didn't he leave after the first time Jesus quoted it? Why did Jesus have to quote it three times? Was He not doing it right or something?

I see where the Bible tells us to resist the Devil and he'll flee, but I can't find anyplace that tells us that scripture is like a magic mantra that we recite to make him run away.

I've never really understood why people have some of the ideas about the Devil they do. The Devil isn't omnipotent and yet, everybody believes that out of all of the six billion people on the planet, he chooses them to haunt.

I know you meant well, Paul, but like they say where I come from, that dog just won't hunt.

    I'm Not A Name-it-Claim-it . . .

. . . However, I have pure faith in what the Word of God can do in our life.

After all, if the Scriptures were not important in how we are to manage our life and walk, then why did Jesus use Scripture to counter the devil. Why are we told to hide His Word in our heart so that on the day of testing and trials, the Holy Spirit can bring to mind those Words to strengthen us and counter the enemy with the precise words to use in response?

If you had read my book, you would surely know that I am not a person who believes in the name-it-claim-it teachings. God knows if I believed in this teaching I'd not have concerns over the medical insurance increases that have placed before me a dilemma of what meds I should cut in order to pay for the others.

Again, if that is what some of you believe, that is fine and certainly your right. However, this is my right to follow the belief that the Word of God is food, power, and the key to our victory over temptations.

Love You All, and thanks for your input.

This started as such a light hearted post and then it turns into a debate and argument. Where is the love? The power of prayer is amazing and I constantly pray to Jesus to not let the devil in and to cast satan away from me. He is wiley and when you let your guard down he will creep in the door. That's why having the Lord on my side is the best feeling you can have.

II corinthians 2:11 indicates to me that satan tempts us all. Constantly.

    Welcome to the Board

    Sorry,

At times, people on the board like to shoot you down for your posts. In four years, I've grown much broader shoulders. Glad you so the lighthearted side of this post. It wasn't meant to offend anyone.

It would be cool for someone to do a "Man vs Devil" thread and a "God vs devil thread", then a "God w/ Man vs Devil thread". I wonder why the Bible doesn't give more detail on where Satan is exactly? How big he is? or how fast he is? The Bible does show us that we are sifted like wheat when we face the devil by ourselves whether we claim the Word or not. I think the point of the Bible is for us to trust and abide in God and His word. God is our protection from the devil. In God's word we find God (John 5) and in Him we have security.

The devil clearly works on Jesus and His apostles, yet they are pretty important people. If we view Satan like God then we get a twisted view of him, but if we view him like man we also get a twisted view. I have heard some say that the devil may never work on you personally, odds are, it is mostly your sin struggle or a demon now and then. They would then go on to say that the devil would probably work directly on the highest sources of influence such as nation leaders, powerful religious voices, and so forth. A biblical compilation of who the devil is would be quite interesting IMHO
