My wife and I have a small home network and we share a printer. However, after my laptop got virused, I cannot print. How do I get back to where we can share this printer?

You might try reinstalling the drivers. Make sure you use the latest version. Usually you can get them from their website.

Did you completely uninstall the printer from both computers, then re-install? (it's a pain, I know)

Are you using a print server? Or is the printer connected to one of the computers? Or is the printer network-compatible, and simply connected to the router?

About six months ago my scanner was working fine and then the next day it was not. There was no viruses. When I had trouble with the scanner I called support. They had me uninstall every printer and scanner driver and then download the latest drivers for the scanner. Once the scanner worked then I downloaded the printer drivers. Now everything is working fine.

I assume it was some kind of conflict.

I would suggest that you do the same thing. It is amazing how many times over the years that the scanner drivers have caused problems.

What printers are defined on your laptop?

Pardon an obvious question, that's probably insulting your intelligence - but you might also want to make sure that your main PC still has printer sharing enabled.

If you've already done that, then what GB suggested would be the next step I'd take.

Tom, when you go into Network Places, do you see the printer?
