Never would I have believed it but Mitt Romney is catching up to Obama in the state of Minnesota. A new poll by the Minneapolis RedStar Tribune shows:

    Obama 47%
    Romney 44%

with a 3.5% margin of error. Of note is the fact that 38% of those polled identified themselves as Democrats, 33% Republicans, and 29% independents.

This is the state that has given us Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, Walter Mondale, and Paul Wellstone. Why is Romney catching up? Because the Republicans in this state are starting to pull together and realize that Obama has to go! The Minnesota caucus was won by Rick Santorum, but because of party rules manipulation the Ron Paulites got 83% of the delegates at the RNC. Paulites and Tea Partiers are grudgingly going to vote for Romney. You can see this by the erosion of support of Gary Johnson and the increase of support to Romney. For example, here are the numbers for the three candidates in September and then in October.

    Sept
    Obama......48%
    Romney.....40%
    Johnson......5%

    Oct
    Obama......47%
    Romney.....44%
    Johnson......2%

Among voters older than 50 years old, Johnson's support went from 5% down to 1% from Sept. to Oct.
