A set of word studies that uses Strong's numbering that has been helpful to this non-Greek or Hebrew scholar has been the 4-volume set that was orginally published by AMG Publishers. It includes the following:

The Complete Word Study New Testament Spiros Zodhiates (ed.) This is an interlinear Greek NT that shows not only the Strong's numbering but also the exact parsing of the of the Greek words. For more detailed word studies, you can then refer to:

The Complete Word Study Dictionary: New Testament (also edited by SZ)
This will usually give you a little more explanation (and in some cases a quite exhaustive explanation) of the Greek words.

The Complete Word Study Old Testament (also edited by SZ) Basically the same as his NT except that it's an interlinear Hebrew OT

The Complete Word Study Dictionary: Old Testament (Baker & Carpenter eds.) Basically the same as the NT version except that it deals with the Hebrew words.

IMO, the NT Greek books are somewhat better than the OT Hebrew ones.

Of course, with just about any book, the explanations are going to follow the slant of whoever wrote them.

You might try looking these books up at, say, Amazon because I'm not sure if AMG Publishers still stocks them.

This is merely what's been helpful to me. As you can see from the previous posts, others have made some very good suggestions.
