For some things, to some extent.
For visitors, no. Not unless is reaches 'nakedness.'
For workers, some. They are the community's 'face' of the church, and should look decent.
For those on the platform (IMHO), Yes. they are the standared below which all the members will settle.

Here is another question along the same line.

Is there a different dress code for the preacher that does not apply to the congregation?

My last church was a small country church and it was expected of me to wear coat and tie for Sunday, (which I did before it was expected) No one else ever wore a coat and tie except at funerals and weddings.

Once I wore slacks and a dress shirt with no tie and one of my ladies looked at me and said "my you look casual today."

Does that mean I can't sing "this is my story, this is my thong?"

    Perhaps, more importantly, WWJW?
If He were here bodily in 2008, how would He dress when He came to the house of God to worship His Father?

Remember, I am speaking of saved people here, not the lost.

IMO, decent and modest. Not extravagant.

    For all I know, he'd wear a T-shirt that says, "I save."

For some reason, I don't think Jesus would wear a religious t shirt.

I can see him wearing a Harley shirt, if anything like that.

Jesus would wear a white robe with a purple stole.

That's what He always wears at our church, during our Easter pageant.

I'm sorry but I just wouldn't make it to church if I had to follow your code. As would many including our Pastors (for the Jeans) (and shorts when baptizing)

I do have a different look on it but I'm sure most won't agree (and that's fine)

I'm a real biggy on Being a good steward of the money Christ gives me. And if I "had" to dress a certain way for church I would just be buying these clothes only for church.
And IMO that's not being a Good Steward.
When in my every day life I never have the need to dress this way. I wear Jeans and shorts during the summer (but not short ones) and T shirts and other casual tops.
All that I wear to work Shopping or what ever. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I would like to add When someone comes in to my church dressed up we know right away they're a visor and we make them feel right at home!

Did you read the first 3 words of my post?? "For my family" I'm not asking anyone else to dress this way but my own children. So I'm willing to spend the money on nice clothes for them so it's not a problem! And I don't mind the girls wearing a nice pair of khaki pants or black slacks along with nice tops - and they will wear these clothes to school too, so they get plenty of use out of the clothes.

I wear skirts or dresses whenever I go to church.

Hubby wears a suit on Sundays and slacks, dress shirt and tie or jeans and a polo shirt on Wednesday evenings.

Brent wears a suit on Sundays and khakis, dress shirt, and tie on Wednesday night.

We are good stewards of God's money because most of our clothes come from the thrift shop.

Yes, I can find good, brand name clothes there. I also do the consignment shops.

When I had an office job, I dressed up every day; why would I do less for my Lord?

Like Annsi, this is what OUR family does. I don't really care what anyone else wears as long as it is modest (talking about the saved here, not the lost).

I got saved later in life and when I did, NO ONE mentioned clothes to me, but I noticed that my skirts kept getting longer and longer and my sweaters looser and looser. :)

First let me say I am sorry as it seems I made you mad and that wasn't my intent at all.
And Yes I did read your post including the first three words. And I was just commenting that I wouldn't be able to go to church if I had to follow Your Code (or that of your family)
As for being able to afford any dress clothes it's not that I can't it's just that I choose not to. And if you do great. And I also did say that this was my view and I realize it wasn't the way everyone looked at it and that to was fine. I just thought I could give my opinion and share a different view of looking at something.

I'm not mad and I wouldn't expect you to follow my family's dress code because that's our standards that my husband and I came up with for our family. If you were part of my family, I'd make sure that you had proper church clothing - which doesn't need to be fancy but neat, clean and not jeans, shorts or sneakers. I understand others have different standards for their own families. If you choose to wear jean shorts and sneakers, that would be your choice but if you were my child and came downstairs in that, I'd have to tell you that you're not leaving for church until you change into the clothes that I bought you for church. :D

I agree with the ones who have spoken of modesty. And I believe that is all the Bible say about our dress. Not for only church but our lives as a whole.
I'm not saying any of these answers were /are more right or wrong.
I just wanted to add that I think Christ looks at our hearts that is where he is of most concerted, not what ever we choose to wear. I think that is of personal conviction.
And I just hope that for any lost person who has come to any church how ever they are dressed that person receive the love of Christ.
