Should we call for a cease fire...

    at least long enough for us to evacuate our American citizens out of Lebanon? I just watched a news report where an American family who was visiting grandparents is trapped inside of Lebanon and can't get out. The embassy tells them to watch the news for info on how to get out, but they have no power. The only communication the have with the outside world is the cell phone. What are some alternative solutions? How do we get our people out of there?

    Yeah, this is a terrible situation. COuld this be a job for Delta Force? I really dont know. I doubt if they'd agree to a cease-fire for one family to leave.

    As I understand, the number of Americans is something like 2,100 (or 21,00, I'm not sure, but the latter seems awfully high). In any case, the number is far too high for a Delta Force operation, I think.

    As to the outcome, I wish Israel well, and hope that they completely destroy Hezbollah. It is certainly not without risks, though.

    I am also curious to know how this plan to evacuate Lebanon through cruise ships is going to work since Israel has a coastal blockade being enforced.

    I just saw a part of an interview with Shimon Peres and he stated that the Israeli government will help Americans who want to leave to get out safely. :thumbs:

    Why do I feel like New Orleans all over again? We weren't prepared to evacuate 25,000 Americans. We can move only 1,000 daily. A cruise ship holds 750. Marines in helicopters with US markings, landing in Lebanon, could be provocative, no matter how innocent their intentions. How close is the nearest U.S. carrier? Back to the drawing board, methinks.

    Are they mostly Hezbollah supporters, these Americans? See the other thread.
