I've been told by people who work with homeless people not to give money as it ends up being used for drugs or liquor.

I have given money before but usually I don't. I have offered to buy food as well.

Once when I was eating a sandwich in a park in downtown Atlanta, a homeless guy came up to me and said, "You'll get fat eating that whole thing." I asked him if he wanted half - he did, so I gave him half.

Be careful about taking homeless people to your property to do work, such as weeding your flower bed.

One "accident" or "slip and fall" during the work on your property, and you will be liable for their injury. So don't do it.
