We are excited to launch the shoutbox, which is a real time chat functionality.
It will be available to all Baptist Board registered members who opt for a Supporter upgrade, to chat with each other in real time.
The supporter upgrade is set to the lowest amount possible $1 per month, just to cover the license and server costs. With the supporter upgrade you will recieve a new supporter badge as well.
    Hope you find it useful!
Supported upgrade can be found on the account upgrades page.

Are there plans to also allow a one-time transaction rather than a monthly one? Example: $12/year rather than $1/ month.

Side note. It is refreshing to see a hands-on site owner.

    Cheers.

    Thanks and great suggestion.
I have made both monthly and annual supporter options available.
Monthly at $1 and Annual at $10.

Good thing grace is free b/c the baptistboard sure isn't.

    Pleas see -
We had to pay for the license and get extra server space.
The idea is just to cover the basic cost associated with it, so we can create a better member experience.
    Hope it makes sense!

I would think that someone with Christian hedonism as his worldview would just spend the money. *laugh*

You apparently have no idea what Christian Hedonism is then.

I'm sure you've put up bookoo $$$. I just think it unfortunate that one of the cooler features of BB is something that you have to pay for.

Yeah, next thing you know they will be charging for internet access. It should be free, after all.

    Vote Bernie Sanders.

I don't think that is quite (or remotely) the same thing as Bernie's socialism. Plus, there are so many ads and other forms of $ requests ("buy us a coffee"... really???) that they don't really need 1 more financial income source on something that will probably not be utilized much if you have to pay for it.

Please don't misunderstand, I'm all for the owner to make bank on this site. I'm just asking the owner to not force me to pay for a cool feature.

But he's not forcing you to pay for a cool feature .

I decided that I enjoy the BB enough to fork over ten bucks a year, even if the chat box doesn't pan out. I pay over 10 times that much for a gym membership I have not used in two years :-( .

Tim, he is not forcing us to do anything. I choose to support his efforts (at least to some small extent due to my early complaints and fear about the new format which turned out to be unfounded) and am willing to pay the $10 per annum for the additional feature, even if it is never utilized.

Remember the words of Luke, (Luke 10:7) "And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire."

As long as it is given voluntarily it remains biblical. :)

(Besides, $10 is not a fortune. About 2 fewer Starbucks per year.) :D :D

There's a lot of work that goes into setting up and maintaining a website. I don't see $10 a year for a premium feature to be excessive.

I mean "force" in the sense that if I want to avail myself of that feature, then I am forced to pay or not enjoy it. Money is tight for me, so I suppose I will simply not enjoy it.
