Not at all, but it is out of Love that we dont do things that cause others to stumble. I might really like a glass of wine with a nice dinner, but I would not have one because it could destroy my witness. Paul probably did not eat meat sacrificed to idols - out of Love. You might have to take down your confederate flag, not because there is anything wrong with your being proud of your southern heritage, but out of Love for those who see that flag as a symbol of opression and slavery.

How can you avoid verse 20: 20 Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are clean, but they are evil for the man who eats and gives offense.

Well, as ChurchBoy said to me on another related thread, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

After all, that's what makes America great!

I'm not worried about a disagreement with you and me. You and your relationships with other races, and your unwillingness to follow scripture when it is plain you are wrong is of concern however.

Let's not use Scripture as a bludgeon.

If some one finds Dixie offensive, they have that right. If some one finds the cross offensive, they have that right. If some one of another color passes judgement on another because of the displaying of the Confederate flag, who stands at fault?

I have the right to fly Dixie, but I do not own one. I do not appretiate anyone trying to browbeat others into giving up their rights just so they will not be uncomfortable.

If my flying Dixie ruins my witness to blacks, would my wearing a Stetson destroy it before a Native American? Would my Texas tee shirt tarnish my witness to a Mexican? Would my portrait of George Washington lessen my credibility to an Englishman? Would my order of Freedom Fries offend a Frenchman? Would our system of men only as pastors and deacons in our church cripple our testimony in the eyes of women?

Once we start down the road of accomodation, it never will end.

I do not advocate hatred, but I will not accept being denied the right to preserve a part of my heritage.

In Christ,
Trotter

Evidently some don't have a clue about Scripture. This discussion MUST center around the Bible and not our feelings.

Just to get off topic a little. I just noticed...Dr. B has over 10,000 posts!!! When is the party!?! [IMG]

Way to go!

Bro. James

P.S. If you (Jimmy C) are afraid to drink wine, what do you use during the Lord's Supper? What about destroying your obedience to Him?

Also, are you offended when you see someone fly a Mexican, English, French, or any other flag in this country? Why or why not? I am a Texan and it might offend me to see a Mexican fly a Mexican flag. They should not fly it, right? BTW, that also goes for wearing it on a t-shirt or any other display. I get REALLY offended. :D

Bro. Reed

I am not opposed to the drinking of wine, however my SBC church is, and I am a deacon in my church. I have promised my church that I will not drink alcoholic beverages. we drink grape juice when we celebrate the Lord's Supper. I am a firm believer that it is not the elements themselves but my spriritual state when I partake that matters!

Are you really offended by the mexican flag??? We beat them as well!! Does the Mexican flag or any other really generate a feeling of opression to you. If so, on behalf of all the Gonzalazes, guiterrezes, etc that I know, we apologize!

Its pretty hard to offend most of us white southern protestants, the media tries all the time with little impact. i think that is one of the reasons we find it so hard to understand that African Americans are truly, and deeply offended by the confederate flag.

What I find somewhat ironic is that I work with some people from Minnesota, they were deeply offended by the movie Fargo (stupid accents, they dont act like that etc) I told them the list of movies that make fun of us would be a tad to long to list.

>>>>>I will never fly the bloody banner of the yankeescum Federales. <<<<

This type of intemperate remark should not be posted. It does not do anything to keep the discussion on an objective level. I also don't understand the thinking that goes into it.

>>>>>>>But the term "black Republicans" is NOT RACIAL. Black has always been equated with "evil". Rmember the wordless book song we learned in Sunday School - "My heart was black with sin until the Savior came in .. "

This was a common phrase used in the press and government to the radical agenda of the republicans (99.99% of which were WHITE males). It was a an insult to the strong federalism of the Republican hierarchy.

Hope that clears this up.<<<<<<<

It simply shows that you misunderstood the historical context of the term and how it was used before the Civil War. It was used as a slur against white Republicans before and during the civil war, in an attempt to connect them with blacks, because of the sympathy some Republicans had for slaves. It had nothing to do with evil, but it was an attempt to lump white Republicans together with blacks in the hope that this would discredit them. And I am sure it was successful to a certain extent. If you don't believe me, you can look this up on the Internet, which is what I did before I brought it up here.

Tanker,

Since the Federales were from Mexico I assume yankeeskum federales were from northern Mexico and that must be the bloddy banner that Dr Bob wont fly, and neither will I!!

By the way one of my all time favorite movies was treasure of the sierra madre - the Federales wouldnt show them their stinking badges!

With respect to the Confederate Flag?

Has anyone ever heard of Dr.Phil Kidd? Well brother you should listen to his opening statements about the Confederate Flag, hanging Jesse Jackson,inter-racial "issues",the right to bare "arms",a "pistol-packing" preacher,"And if you don't like it you can suck an egg this big!"

I was rather taken back by his comments...Now do I dislike what the Preacher said? Yea I didn't like it too much but,do I dislike him? No...I would just like some feedback as to what some of you think about him and what he said. Would you folks hold him in good fellowship? How would and how should we respond to this Preacher? Do you really believe what the man said? I really don't want to judge a fellow I.F.B. Preacher, I just don't know to "take" him yet...

Go to www.BaptistBibleTrumpet.com and click on
Dr.Phil Kidd under "From the 2001 Trumpet Banquet"
Please send me your comment if you have one. Thanks
