Perhaps you have some ideas. Here are a few of mine:

Segregation. Just tonight, I watched my son want to go play with a black girl. I just smiled inside at his innocense in just seeing the other person as a person. He will not learn the hate in my home.

Homosexuality. I find it amazing that people have to "educate" children that it is okay for samesex relationships.

When my oldest was young she did not see black people.

    "He's brown," she said.

Unbelievable! How can you, as a preacher, teach children that homosexuality is all right and then turn around and condemn preachers who are overweight?

What is this preoccupation of yours with sodomy? No matter what the thead is...you always seem to introduce this subject.

That's the same thing my son said when he was younger. It wasn't until later that he learned "political correctness" of current terms.

Sue, I don't think that is what Preach meant.

    Come on, PTW, explain, please.

I think what he is saying is that children do not "naturally" have prejudice against other races or classes of people. They "learn" that from outside influences.

Also, children "naturally" would reject same-sex relationships unless they are "taught" to accept them.

Exactly! And why would a Christian want to teach their children to accept homosexual lifestyles as normal?

It will never cease to amaze me how a Baptist preacher can say he believes in the Bible and, in the very next breath, state that he is absolutely pro-homosexual.

God put "Thou shalts'" and "Thou shalt nots'" in the Bible for a reason.

    Blessings,
    Sue

I don't think PTW meant it the way you took it.

If I misunderstood PTW, I will apologize.

However, he has made the statements I just included in my last post on several different threads.

Using that logic then; is it all right to embrace all because sin is 'normal'?

There is a song in South Pacific entitled "You Have to be Taught". I used to agree with it, but now I have some reservations. Here are the opening words:

You have to be taught to hate and fear,
You have to be taught from year to year,
    It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear;
You have to be carefully taught!

I now don't think we have to ever be taught to hate or fear. First of all, they seem to come naturally to all people. Secondly, we all seem to have hate and fear regarding what might hurt us or someone we love.

What we all do need to be taught is where to direct that hate and fear. As we grow up, fear of many 'unknowns' is replaced by specific objects of fear, and of hate. As a Christian mom, I do have a fear of those things which can pull my children in the wrong direction now they are all young adults. And I hate them (the wrong influences, not my children!). Simply and directly, I hate those things which get in between anyone and Christ. Those things, whatever they are, always cause damage, and I've become sort of allergic to pain, both in others and in myself!

I know we must be refined as Christians, but that doesn't make me enjoy the process!

But those who are not Christian teach their children to hate and fear other sorts of things, whether it be racial or class structure or poverty, or whatever. It's just that, as Christians, our focus is different.

So I don't think any of us need to learn TO hate and fear, but simply WHAT to hate and fear.

There was a movie on LifeTime just this week about this very subject of homosexuality.

The mother explained to her children that her new partner after she divorced their dad was a person. They should look at her as a person not as a woman.

Very strange movie, but it was obvious that it was supposed to be a "teaching" movie. Is this a new movement? Or am I just now aware of it?

Apparently, people are teaching children to understand and be tolerant of homosexuality.

It is amazing. What is even more amazing is how the parents will allow it to be taught.

But, I wonder why, when it comes to sin, that in most cases, sin doesn't have to be taught. I never taught rebellion, lieing, cheating, etc. But the children will sin so easily. But in human relations, will it be so hard for the child being raised by homosexual parents? Could it be that the only reason they have to be taught for this "lifestyle" to be accepted is because we don't accept it so readily in the world?

I think PTW is saying we must teach our children that the following things are wrong:

    segregation
    homosexuality

This is what I gathered by the topic title: things we must teach our children that are wrong. If not, please correct me.

Sue, the title of the thread is things that are taught that are WRONG.

I have NEVER implied or said that homosexuality is okay. I do not have a fascination with sodomy. It is evil and an abomination.

What I was saying is that many people "educate" children that homosexuality is okay. It is so unnatural.

I hope that clears things up.

Something else is that children have to "learn" that people are better than others simply because of physical characteristics. For example, Hitler helped to educate the Germans of his day to hate Jews (partly because of their looks). Or something more immediate, a child with down-syndrome. God spent no less time on that child than he did with any other child. He is the one who created the child.

These are just some issues that have come to my mind.

Here's an idea: Let's teach kids what the Bible says: (since homosexuality was discussed)

    Teach them:
1.) Homosexuality is vial and wicked, it's not a lifestyle it's a death style and AIDS is the judgement of God
2.) You keep yourselves pure, every boy and girl ought to be a virgin at their wedding altar
3.) You work hard, teach your boys to support their wives, teach boys to look and act like boys, and girls to look like and act girls, teach the boys to beat the stuffing out of someone that mistreats a lady (in Christian Love)
4.) Teach them what the world teaches is demonic and it's to be viewed as trash, don't dress like them! don't look like them! don't talk like them!
5.) Tell them "You do right! You do right!"
6.) Teach them to Hate sin and just maybe when they'll grow, they will be leaders and stand up to the liberals
(i don't know why homosexuality was brought up but the only reason they came out of the closet is because "us fundies" didn't stand our ground, let's send them back to the closet")
Raise your kids with Love and with the Bible, lead by example, discipline them out of Love and not of anger, don't compromise

    sincerely,

    sincerely,

A Born again, Independent, Fundamental, KJB AV1611 loving, uncompromising, sold out to God, separated, blood bought, sin hating, sinner loving, mission minded, Baptist [IMG]

I owe you an apology and it is sincere.

I am sorry I misunderstood the title of your thread.

    Please forgive me.

I should have asked you to explain before giving an opinion.

Not to be caught up in the other posts...but to address the original one. The things that I am trying to teach my children that are wrong are:

    Disobedience of their parents
    Disrespect
    Lying
    Stealing
    Prejudice
    Lazyness
    Profanity
Talking to stangers without either their father or myself present.
    Physical Violence
and Hurting peoples feelings on purpose.

I discussed homosexuality with my son, because he saw something on T.V. and asked me...and his response was a shudder and "Ew, that's gross" I didn't make a big deal about it...but I did reaffirm that the Bible says to hate the sin...not the sinner.

One thing that makes me angry ..is that my 8 year old 2nd grader came home the other day from school and asked me what "pot" was...seems her substitute teacher addressed the issue in school. My little girl didn't have a clue what "pot" was until this substitute teacher told her. I am greatful though, that my daughter came to me about the incident after the fact.

I'll deal with the other things as they arise.
