    Naturally we can predict the Democrats will be completely against this, because only two of the four new states could be counted on to be consistently liberal. Here's the division:

    Sounds like Illinois...paring the Chicago area off to create two states.

    I am guessing that you were fairly removed from Chicago. :laugh:

    My maternal side is from Southern Illinois, and have been fortunate enough to have spent much time there over the years. Many from the area would welcome a split.

    It is a much different, more pleasant people there.

    When I joined the military, I enlisted in Joliet, and went through MEPPS in Chicago. Other than that, spent most of my time in central (Lincoln, Peoria) and lived in southern (Marion, Carbondale) for a while.

    So let me ask the two Illinois natives: What would the Daly machine do if such a piece of legislation was introduced or a referendum came before the voters? I ask because it is my impression Illinois politics is somewhat more cut-and-dried than is the case in California.
