Are you guilty of any of these?

(Pro 6:16) These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

(Pro 6:17) A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

(Pro 6:18) An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

(Pro 6:19) A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

I think that a great number of postings on here totally disregard these things!!!!

How can one be guilty of what he has already been forgiven of? Isn't it wonderful that all my sins have been forgiven and they are no more imputed to me because I wear the righteousness of Christ. Yet you would charge men of sin.

    1. While Christ has forgiven us, Paul called himself the chief of sinners in the present tense "I am the chief." so a present tense recognition of ourselves as sinners is totally appropriate and even necessary.

    2. There is nothing unbiblical about confronting a Christian brother in sin. You can debate whether an online forum is the best place to do it, or if this type of general statement is even helpful, but naming a sin when one sees it is not necessarily wrong...quite the opposite.

    3. If the post's purpose was to make us think about the attitude and total committment to honesty with which we post, I hope it is succesful.

Thanks Brother for posting these Scripture at a most opportune time. I don't doubt that I am guilty of some, I hope I am not guilty of others, and I don't believe I have "shed" or advocated the "shedding of innocent blood"!

I will say this. I have been on this Board since November 2004 and I have never seen the dissension worse than it is at present and I cannot plead innocent. In past years much of the dissension, and it was sometimes bitter, was over the issue of dispensational theology vs covenant theology. Presently the primary issue is the free will of man in Salvation as opposed to the Doctrines of Grace. The dissension is bitter and in many posts the rancor is sadly apparent.

You really should reconsider what you say in light of what God tells us through the Apostle John. That Beloved Apostle would charge you with bearing false witness and far worse than that if you would simply note Verse 1:10.

    1 John 1:8-10; 2:1-6
    8. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
    9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
    10. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

    1 John 2:1-6
    1. My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
    2. And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
    3. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
    4. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
    5. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
    6. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

I never said I don't have any sin we all do but who has the right to charge men with it. Certainly I didn't place this on line Union brother did that. You didn't like my response. I can't help that either.

    Amen

Spot on! We might be truly mistaken on the meaning of a Biblical passage, but there is no need to claim those that disagree are dishonest, brain dead, arrogant anti-Christs. This media could enable us to grow in our understanding of God's message, but only if we actually try to communicate.

Brother Jeff, what you posted is wonderful, and needed right now. You are spot on, as Brother Van has already posted.

That being said, there is even some dissention in this thread!! Baptists will be baptists......

Many baptists have a profound inability to be introspective and evaluate themselves. In other words, if something is wrong--dissension, argument, acrimony, etc.--it's always the other guy's fault.

Many (perhaps most?) baptists are known more for their immaturity than anything else. A very sad thing indeed.

I suspect that the SS Quarterly is the limit of the Bible Study of most Baptists!

Likely...and that stuff isn't that good, usually. It's little more than adult babysitting material.

Great passages. We need to keep in mind the importance of intent. All of those passages have in mind the repentance and restoration of the offender. In other words, it is about glorifying God through edifying brothers and sisters.

This is different than condemning and ill-intended judgment.

Paul judged the man in 1 Corinthians 5 and called for his exclusion from the fellowship. His intent was the the benefit of both the Church and the guilty party.

    1 Corinthians 5:1-6
    1. It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.
    2. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
    3. For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
    4. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
    5. To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
    6. Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

The Church suffers to day because of the misunderstood and overworked Scripture: Matthew 7:1. Judge not, that ye be not judged.

It is a simple fact that Churches will tolerate any behavior from its members. I believe this is one reason that the Church is on the decline in this country. I have heard of a Southern Baptist Church that split over whether to retain a homosexual pastor. Some denominations have accepted homosexual marriage. Doctor Death of the Kansas Abortion clinic who practiced Partial Birth abortions was an honored member of the local Lutheran Church. The Roman Catholic Communion which has taken the strongest stand against abortion will not deny the Eucharist to its many prominent members who are radical supporters of Abortion. {Cardinal Dolan of NY has said he would.} This same communion for years overlooked the predator priests in its midst.

Oftentimes when a congregation does remove a pastor or staff member they simply move to another church and continue their evil habit, whatever it may be.
