I sure hope scheduled maintenance has been rescheduled........It sure didn't work for me....It takes forever to get on and then forever more to move about..and I only have two or three threads on which I can post...............I give up!

    Cheers,

Yes.....I am having it checked out at this end, such as telephone lines and my connection. Thank you very much for responding.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Andrew

I am on a broadband connection and get some significant differences in download times for individual pages.

    What I surmise

    (1) The number of hits you are taking has a significant impact at times.

    (2) My security suite does not like some calls. I notice it on different sites, but I cannot narrow them down to exact calls. But, those I have been able to check (read the data on the pop ups) indicate calls to 3rd party domains (google I think on your site).

    3. Caching (or sorting) issues on your end?

You will notice that I think the top 2 issues have much more to do with us than with you. ;)

    For Jim, et. al.,

One of the reasons that Andrew is restricting things like emoticons -

THEY SLOW EVERYONE DOWN. If you are served up a page with extra 'stuff', then everyone experiences queing issues (yes like the british take a number and line up).

If the slowdown is one onehundredth of a second, and we have 100 users - slowdown equals one second.

    Nobody notices.

But, if Jim's dial up connection (and others) are waiting in line, then each of the dial ups will have latency (slowdown) issues that can cause a web server to 'wait' until that particular webbrowser gets its material.

I have trouble shot this with an Apache (non-microsoft) server handling requests from Netscape. Drove me crazy - the client web browser (netscape) was ONE OF OUR tech team's machines. Once a week his machine would hang, and the dominos would fall.

pretend there is a smiley here.

It may not help to understand what Andrew is trying to fix, but patience on the part of a customer community is sometimes nice.
