Many of us are disgusted and angry with our current political situation. We vent, complain, argue about, and bash our politicians of choice (I do it, too.)

My question is, besides just coming here and telling the whole world how much we dislike libbies or cons, what are we doing to CHANGE and COMBAT the evil taking over America? What can we do and what are we doing to make a positive difference? Will we spend as much time and energy trying to change things as we spend complaining?

My state, Oregon is a liberal's nest, but our little town is about equally mixed. I'm fighting for conservative viewpoints, supporting conservative candidates, trying to walk the Christian walk, and keeping my ammunition stocked up and guns clean...

There are those, these days, that oppose Christianity with a veracity I've not seen before..

    1) Financially supporting the Libertarian Party, the Cato Institute, and a true limited government candidate for U.S. Senate in Kentucky, Rand Paul.

    2) Spreading the limited government ideas emanating from the Cato Institute to other people.

This is exactly what we can do. First of all, the governing power in this country rests with we the people. God has given us common sense and sound minds. For decade after decade, we have seen both major parties steer this country away from the Constitution and rob its citizens daily. It is the same old cycle. The Republicans get in office and fail. Then we elect Democrats. They fail, and we reelect the same old Republicans that just failed. The cycle repeats itself over and over.

It seems to me the only solution is to rid ourselves of the two major parties, and elect officials that want to govern by the Constitution and serve the people. How do we do that? First of all, we throw out the notion that a vote for someone other than a Democrat or Republican is a wasted vote. That is nothing but baloney. The numbers are there. About half the people are not even registered to vote. Of those that are, only half vote in a high turn out election.

It would not be easy to dismantle the two parties that control 100% of the power with their loyalty to their money backers and not the people. However, it can be done. There is nothing in the Constitution about Democrats or Republicans. They are just two labels that basically means thief.

Now, what we need is a dynamic leader to bring together those who are not registered, independents, those who do not vote, and those who are sick of both parties. If someone could do that, we could crush both parties in one election.

I mean elect someone free of corporation, lobby, financial influence. It is time for a real change, and the only way to get it is to try something new.

Glad to hear it. My plan of action right now is to:
    1. Pray for our nation and it's leaders
    2. Pray for our children to stand firm for Christ
    3. Vote in completely new government officals whenever possible. The ones we currently have in office (both democrat and republican) are useless and need to be replaced with new blood.
    5. Stay educated about current events.
    4. Try to remember that God is still in charge.

I agree with all that you said 100%, and very well put. The only thing I would add to number 3 is to put the politicians as they are defeated on trial for treason, bribery, and theft of the American people, and send them to a chain gang prison for life, every one of them.

    (1) Pray. (Maybe not enough.)
    (2) Vote. (Even though instead of the 'I VOTED' sticker, I should probably wear the ' I THINK I voted'. Since they can't keep 13 year olds out of the Department of Defense, I wonder about these electronic voting booths.)
    (3) Live my life as well as I can.

Okay, so less than 10 of us here are actually willing to take action and DO something. Are the rest of y'all just here to complain and bash the politicians, or are you going to help vote them out of office?

I voted early for the polls this time. Texas had 11 new amendments, plus local issues. Reason? I'm tired of waiting in line even after I get up early and still have 50 people in front of me!

I've started letting the one's I find running for office know that I'm anti-party and they wont get my vote because of party allegiance or platform. I'm letting them know that I will be voting and supporting freely for any candidate who's record and speach indicates that he has knowledge of the constitution AND FOLLOWS IT. I'm letting them know that I'm more concerned about the principals which drive their decisions and the folks they count as important in influencing their decisions than promises. I'm so tired of promises. It's time for accepting less law and more responsibility and review and changing laws and bureaucracy already in place and reducing it instead of adding more to it.

We don't need another stadium, civic center, theater, arts council, ball park, community park........ We have more of these and they're so much nicer than ever dreamed of when I was a child...... Instead the community needs the vision to take care of and preserve what it has..... as an action and act of good citizenship and not as dependants on government!

We also need officials who know their oath and tell the people the truth...... "not on my watch if it is not constitutional". As for state representatives and senators, I'm concerned that they are not following what the people want, nor are they protecting the citizens from excessive spending and taxation nor protecting the rights of the states or the citizens within the states by encouraging the funding and intrusion of the federal government into areas which we should own and control for ourselves.

I cannot prove it, but there are hints out there that the American people are sick to their last straw of the games the Democrats and Republicans have played, and how they have wrecked this nation. When the people finally decide that enough is enough, they will throw everyone of the thieves out in a matter of one or two elections.

For example, in New York, in a Congressional race, the Republican withdrew leaving a liberal Democrat and a conservative third party candidate. Who does the Republican endorse? You guessed it, the liberal Democrat. It is time to wake up people. Take charge of your nation, and throw everyone of these idiots out of office. Elect people who want to serve and not steal.

The biggest issue I see in government right now is fiscal responsibility. I plan on voting for candidates who have demonstrated fiscal responsibility in their resume, including, but not limited to, effective fiscal restraint (in other words, don't just tell me you're going to lower taxes, show me how you're going to lower spending).

In addition, I've increased my volunteerism with local charitable groups, including my local food bank and the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Increased colunteering (not just increased giving) is what is needed to allow private charities to do the work that many have assumed the government would do.

You hit the nail on the head... I'm just here to complain. Oi. This thread is about as worthless as the 'How many black folk have you had in your house lately' thread.

This thread is not worthless if it causes someone to stop and think about how they can make a difference. Too often we sit on our hands and gripe and complain, but we fail to offer any real solution for the problems at hand.

Our president is a real piece of work, but sitting here bashing him day after day is not doing us or our nation any good, and that's why our country is going down the drain. People refuse to get off their rear ends and DO something. We as Christians, especially, should be men and women of ACTION, not just WORDS.

By the way, if you don't like my thread, quit mudslinging and start a better one!:tongue3:

That is because you are part of the problem and not the solution. This is the exact mindset that keeps the Democrat-Republican cycle going. It represents a gross misunderstanding of our history and government.

I'm going to a Tea Party Rally this coming Friday.

Never been to any kind of political event before.

Will that make a difference? Who knows, but there are no political parties involved, just concerned Americans.
