Your argument would have more weight if we weren't loosing over half a million jobs a month, banks won't lend money and the automobile industry is on the verge of collapse. Obama doesn't have to use fear mongering and scare tactics, he can just look out the window and describe what he sees.

I think everyone relates to what he's saying except the few on the far right who believe in doing nothing. The rest of us may not agree 100% with what he's doing but appreciate the effort. He is doing something which is waaaay better than nothing.

Job loss is not justification for socialism, my friend! but socialism is certain formula to worse job loss!

Job loss is the direct result of fear mongering and scare tactics!

The increased difficulty of attaining capital for business growth was the direct result of the mortgage interest crisis.

The mortgage interest crisis was the direct result of government programs to "make home ownership affordable" by encouraging banks to loan money to people who eventually not be able to pay it back.

The cry to "do something" is often used to do exactly the wrong things. Obamanites are using the present problems to advance huge federal government expanision and a host of socialist programs.

The real solution is for government to back out of our lives and let us earn our own way in confidence that we can keep and benefit from our earnings. The adjustment, at this point, can not be anything but diffucult but, in the long term, it would be far better than the Obamanites "solutions" that will only increase our debt and reduce our freedom.

People with money will invest it in businesses to generate return of their investments if they believe the risks are worth the benefits. Government just gets in the way of that albeit is some limited way for good reasons but very often for no good reason at all. Those businesses need workers to produce the goods and services they sell. They own the jobs - not the government and not the workers. As the businesses prosper so do the workers. Some of them will in turn build up their own businesses. It's worked for generations and it's not broken of itself.

This is not fear mongering. Bush did fear mongering when he artificially raised the "terrorist level" to red without cause except that an election was coming. This is a real crisis. The whole world is involved. Do you think you know more about economics than the heads of state of all the countries in the world? If so, share your wisdom with us.

Look for my thread on tent cities, times are as bad as Obama said they are and someone needs to do something. I don't think nothing is a viable option.

Terrorism is not the topic of this thread.

Yes, the world is now involved which just goes to show how much global influence we actually have. Even the communist countries recognize the importance of capitalism. It's interesting that our market strength - and perceived weakness - has so much influence relative the "dimplomacy" of politiicans. It's also interesting to note that the big leaders in socialist and communist systems are in much worse condition than we are right now. We're wounded but not dead. They are really hurting and some are close to collapse yet some among us want America to be like them. Why on earth so?

I'm convinced some of the heads of state don't now much at all about the merits of capitalism and the dangers of socialism. I do admit that I didn't invent either of them. I do try to share my acquired "wisdom" with my representatives. I learned it all from really smart people - the generations who worked and propered under a capitalistic economic system.

Here are just a few "viable options":

Cut individual and corporate taxes. Make investment in America worth more than anywhere else. Beat the competion.

Cut regulations. Make investment in America easier than anywhere else.

Cut entitlements and welfare. Make work worthwhile and necessary for prosperity.

Cut government programs and workers. Release money and resources to the production and exchange of real goods and services.

Open up American resources. Make drilling, mining, and harvesting profitable and beneficial.

Cut subsides. Make industries stand on their own merits.

Cut environmental and safety paranoia. Build nuclear powered electric generation stations. Stop the junk science of politics.

Cut the excuses and favortism. Let individuals stand on their own merits.

Enforce justice. Streamline justice. Punish the guilty. Leave the innocent alone. Elimiate the regulations that only hamper the law abiding.

Reduce the federal government. Let people be more responsible closer to home.

Be positive that America under God can perserve and has been blessed with the best economic system in the world.

I can see cutting individual taxes but cutting corporate taxes would be a waste. What would that do? Another million dollar bathroom, corporate jet or a job overseas?

Isn't this how all those housing loans got so tangled together that we can't separate the good from the bad?

Sure, unemployment is rising by half million a month and you want to turn off the support for the needy... Now that's a Christian spirit.

I'm all in favor of flat taxation where everyone pays the same percentage with no deductions.

Generally when someone says reduce government that is code word for get rid of programs that help the needy. I venture to say there is so much other waste in Government that entitlement programs are the least of our concerns. Remember the $600 toilet seats, no bid contract and cost overruns by the billions...

You're paying the corporate taxes right now along with the handling costs of collecting them or avoiding them. Eliminate the waste by sending the bill directly to who's actually paying it. That would make people ask more questions about where the money's going.

No, the problem came about by the regulations designed to "make home ownership more affordable".

It's not the government's role to provide support for the needy. That is an individual Christian's duty and the duty of the Church. They have and can do a far better job of it. Of course, if you prefer to establish a "Chrisitan" government via a national church then perhaps it would become their responsibility.

Then you'd be a supporter of the Fair Tax proposal.

Generally when someone says they have a great new program to help the needy, the children, the poor, the ignorant, etc. it's just a code word for expansion of government and establishing themselves with authority over the rest of us.

The less the government does the less opportunity there is for the "$600 toliet seats" or the "cost overruns" that are inherent in everything they do. You can expect the same results from the "stimulus" law by the way. It will cost more than planned and will include excesses. The answer is to reduce the opportunity for all of it. Get the politiicans out of our pockets and the responsibility for spending the money becomes more directly yours and mine who generate the wealth to start with.

So who would fix and build new streets? You think you can get your neighbors to chip in on a new road?

My neighbors are already chipping in to build and fix new roads and streets! We don't want to pay for the streets in everyone's neighborhood or the roads in everyone's counties and states. Yes, at some point they are some projects to be funded by mulitple states and to some limited extent the entire nation. That's okay and not the target of less government. What is the target is the concept that it is the federal governments responsibility to build and fix all the roads and streets in the entire nation or even to tell everyone how to fix them or how to operate them. This is the scam where money is collected and then given back only if certain rules are followed. Let's just keep the money to start with and make our own rules at the lowest possible level. Even so this is not the main area of concern and, of course, you know this.
