Oh my goodness! That's a good one! Poor kid! Would you believe that I knew a girl in high school named Candy Barr, too? For real!
I voted soda, although I am apt to call it either one, or both combined. I was a military brat growing up, and my parents weren't from the south, so, I got it from all sides!

My Rebel Hubby calls it a Coke, I (being a Yankee)call it a Pop. And I'm diligently working to train my kids to do the same.

My son(age 3) now says " Rebels Drool, and Yankees Rule"

He shames his daddy, and makes me Proud. [IMG] [IMG] :D

At my parents house, they are all color coded! You get either a red coke (the regular one) or a white coke (diet) or a gold coke (caffeine free).

When we first moved to Texas my wife got a job at a hospital and after the first day she came home telling me how the day went. She said a few of the ladies asked her if she wanted a soda water. She came home asking me what that was. I had to laugh. She thought it was some kind of water with baking soda in it. Out here it is referred to as soft drinks or by the brand name. It is not called pop or soda water. When I hear that it is a tell tale sign of where the person is from.

I'm from Texas and I never heard it called soda water. :D It is a very large state, though.

We always call it by the brand we wanted. What kind of soft drink do you want? Coke, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Sprite, etc. I still do that even in Oklahoma.

I couldn't vote in the poll.

Several years ago we lived in Houston and my wife worked at a hospital. She came home one day telling me about her experience at the hospital. She told me that some of the ladies on break were drinking soda water. She couldn't imagine anyone drinking soda water. I laughed and told her that those were soft drinks.

I always say "please bring me a diet Dr. Pepper." If I said "bring me a pop" they'd probably bring my dad! [IMG]

In Houston and parts east, central, and through to Dallas, at least, it is soda water, or, if we're being typically l..a..z..y, in our own Texas way, we just say Coke.

I use the terms interchangeably, depending on to whom I am speaking. When I say Coke, that is usually what I mean.

More often than not, the question is, "do you want some iced tea?"

    We love our "Texas tea".

I normally drink Pepsi, diet of course. But since I am expecting I drink flavored seltzer water with juice. I call it a "fruit fizzy." My hubby calls it "gross!" Nine times out of ten I just drink water. [IMG]

I thought everything was a coke until I went to college in PA. Moved back to the Soth and realised I was right all along.

Still call everything a coke. Even some of the Irish do that I have noticed, but "mineral" is the preferred term here.

Many moons ago, my mom knew someone in college who called it "tonic water."
I'm not sure what that was all about.

    I say soda. I'm from Maine. :D
