Just yesterday I ran into a professing Atheist. He will not bear having the Bible quoted (though he did not recognize it when I did cite it), or opened in front of him.Yet he insists that the modern versions of today change the meaning of what the KJV said.Remember, with great vigor he does not believe in God. He calls the Bible made-up fantasies which anyone could invent. ( I know 2 Peter 2:16 and 2 Timothy 3:16 among others refutes this). However, he emphatically claims the MV's have distorted the meaning of the Bible.I was thinking as he was making his case :"WOW! He sounds like the Christian KJV Only folks in many ways." He was not interested in hearing about ancient manuscripts and the like. He only had a laser-beam focus on how in his view the MV's have changed the message of the Bible. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I don't get the point or the reason for the thread.

Why should the views of non believers on Bible translations have any bearing on the value of the translation?

Some non-believers are critical of the KJV because of its archaic language just like many users of the MVs.

    Is that relevant?

I see you forgot to use your edit button Pal.

Do you think I posted an absurdity, or made deliberately offensive insults?

You eagerly seek out the least bit of credit to your cause at great expense.Even a Bible foe gets your endorsement.

What biblical distortions are there in the NET Bible,HCSB and TNIV for instance? What Bible doctrines are missing or have been changed from the time of the 1611 Royally-Produced Version?

BTW, you disagree with the KJV when you repeatedly refer to an Atheist as being "smart".The KJV says :"The fool has said in his heart there is no God." Which is it? Is an Atheist "smart", or a fool?

You "regress". That means you are going backwards. Perhaps you wish to redress the error of your ways.Or, simply, you regret what you have said. You might have to do all three with your biblically indefensible remark of an atheist being a "smart fool." There is no such category in all of Holy Writ.Care to start over?

    Troll Alert!?? Hardly!!

    Troll Alert!?

    Uh- I don't think so!!

    Gimme' a break!! :(

I do not particularly care whether or not you happen to agree or disagree with Rippon here, and I've had my share of disagreements with him (as I have with most BBer's) in the time I've been on the Baptist Board, and C4K may well be accurate in questioning the relevance of this topic, but Rippon, with almost 4000 posts, is hardly a troll.

    Incorrect, perhaps! Troll? Never!

FTR, most 'unbelievers' I've ever encountered, who referred the Bible, usually did so regarding the KJV, in this manner, especially those who wanted to give a 'blanket rebuttal' to the Bible. I would say this is because it is the most widely avaliable version that has been around, in its multiple editions, however. I have yet to meet any who cited the ESV, NASB, NKJV, or HCSB, to name a couple or four of more modern versions, or the Geneva, DARBY, RV, or YLT, to name some older ones, but suspect you will find some that mught now cite the NIV, as it is becoming very widespread, these days, as well as the KJV. I did run into one one time, 40 yrs, ago, in college, who referred to the GNB, however, if my memory is correct.

    Gotta' agree with Rippon, here.

No version, that I've seen, condones unbelief, nor does Scripture ever say anything that even comes close to remotely resembling:

"The fool has said in his heart, 'There is only one acceptable version' of the Bible."

Uh- why do I suspect that his thread (which does ask a legitimate question by the OP, IMO) is destined to not be around for long? [IMG]

An argument doesn't stand or fall based on who supports it. It doesn't matter what an atheist thinks is the best Scripture. He doesn't accept it from the beginning (God created...) to the end (come quickly Lord Jesus), so why should anyone place credence in what he says?

While I can't see the relevance of the question in the OP, others may,

Definitely NOT the work of a troll.

    Real cause for concern!

Now this is a definite cause for concern.

C4K is agreeing with me that Rippon is not a troll.

Seriously, good job in deleting the personal attacks, C4K.
