    I have stayed out of most discussions on this movie. I saw it once with my wife. I probably will not see it again.

    While I watched it, I picked up on several catholic references that might not be overtly obvious to most Christians, as we do not do the same things as catholics.

    In spite of the catholicism, several things were extremely well done. I submit the following were remarkable:

    1. The portrayal of Pilot was top notch.

    2. The portrayal of Caiaphus was top notch.

    3. The way Christ had to help Caiaphus and the others to put himself in a position to be sent before Pilot. I don't know how many people are aware that Caiaphus, Annas, and the other leaders lacked anything on Christ. Christ had to help them with his own condemnation. Christ was orchestrating the entire thing. That was well done.

    4. The way Legolas took out that elephant by himself. Oh wait, wrong movie.

    Thanks Daniel I agree with atleast the first 3. Another thing I liked was the portrayal of Peter denying Christ. I am not certain about where it happened or anything else historical but I thought Peter's confrontation with Christ was very moving. It spoke to me.

    Personally I liked the subtle way supernatural events blend into the background.
    An ear that was chopped to pieces get's healed. An imprint of the face of Jezus stays behind on Veronica's headcovering. The devil is out manipulating events.
    All pretty much unnoticed by the rest of the world.

    I believe that was the scene where you were in the lobby gettin' a tub of that buttered popcorn!---in the words of Maxwell Smart--aka Agent 86--"Missed it by ----- that much!"

    But man that popcorn is good. Only problem is that it costs more for popcorn and a coke than it does to get into the movies. I guess it pays off me being so stingy becase I don't need all that butter anyway.

    See how subtle it is. ;)
    After a woman wiped the blood of the face of Jezus with her shawl, a bloodstain in the shape of his face stayed behind on it.

    Barabbas was pretty funny. You just knew he thought he was going to die when Pilate offered the Jews the choice between him and Jesus. Afterall, Barabbas was a murderer. So when they chose Barabbas, he was ecstatic! Of course, then Pilate asked the question again, and Barabbas cringed, fearing that the people would change their minds. Of course they didn't, and he was freed!

    Luke 22:50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus answered and said, "Permit even this." And He touched his ear and healed him.
    Dr. Luke spoke of the healing.

    John 18:10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus....... 26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the garden with Him?" 27 Peter then denied again; and immediately a rooster crowed.

    Sorry Mioque. I was confused about this remark you made. I thought you were questioning why this was in the movie. [IMG]

    "manipulating"---does that mean "causing" events to happen??

    What does Acts 2:23 say?

    I was impressed by the authenticity of the wardrobes of the priests, even the breast plates, bells on the hems, etc.

    I was also impressed with the sound quality, lighting, etc. Most religious movies are usually made on the cheap. This one was first class quality in every aspect. [IMG]

    We liked the sound track, too. Very well done! Many movies have problems with sound levels... sometimes going way too loud. This was tastefully quiet while you heard the nail enter the palm and the crowd noises never overshadowed other sounds.

    Come to think of it. The devil doesn't do all that much except for annoying Jezus. It (her? him?) is more this creepy presence almost nobody seems to see.
    I got the strong feeling it was stirring up trouble, but judging from what you actually get to see it was simply (an invisible to most) part of the crowd.

    ~~~Thanks for clearing that up, Daniel! I thought that I had not only missed the imprint of Jesus' face on the shawl but the elephant as well! :eek: ;) And I didn't even go out for popcorn! [IMG]
    When Veronica (or at least, we suppose this is Veronica) wipes Jesus' face, the features of his face where the blood was are outlined on the cloth.
    This isn't supernatural, though, but common sense.
    I know that as a paramedic, I'd had similar things happen to me, where I would cradle or lift someone and an impression would remain on my shirt.
    I missed the scene where Veronica's head veil has the imprint of Christ's face the first viewing but knew to watch for it the second and third time. My husband knew it was coming and still missed it. You almost had to know where to look and what to look for. Our youth pastor (I went with him, another of our pastors, 5 deacons and 2 of their wives) asked me had I seen it and he told me what he knew about it. For the record, neither of those pastor's were offended by this scene.
    It's not the actual scene that's offending to some, but rather the inspiration source for the scene, as well as some others.
    Back on topic... I appreciated the overall quality of production, from custuming to filming. It had the look of quality work.
